my opinion, the main problem with the US being there is simply that too
much foreign influence over governments i never a good thing. We saw
this during British colonialism. We saw this in Vietnam. And we
will continue to see this in the middle east. An effective and
Democratic government simply can't function unless it was created by
it's own people. The US can't/doesn't see what all of the problems in
Iraq are, other than the military problems. And that is why the current
Iraqi government is so useless, It's controlled by America. It's not
that America is evil and is trying to undermine the middle east, it's
just that when they influence policy too heavily, they tend to try and
influence it in their favor. A government trying to protect it's own
interests is a perfectly legitimate cause, but when they influence other
countries, it ends up with those people being screwed over, which
results in an ineffective and corrupt government, hated by it's own
people. A good example of this would be the elections in Palestine.
Hamas obviously isn't a pro-west organization, and anyone in the US has a
lot of reasons to hate them. But in Palestine, they're well liked,
simply because they run an efficient government and effective
government, in terms of domestic policy, which is a very rare thing in
the middle east. All the US saw of this, was that Hamas was
anti-west, and that Fatah was pro-west, so when they tried to interfere
with the election, it screwed over the palestinians. |
