I have 70hrs on the TB-20 from when I did my CPL and IR-SE.

Compared to other GA aircraft it feels more heavy, more stable. My first remark on it was that "It feels like flying a ship"
It has great range and power which makes loading more easy, especially when compared to aircraft as the Piper Seneca V.
On the TB-20 you could take 4 people on board and enough fuel to give you an endurance of 3.5 hours and still remain within limits. On the Seneca this was impossible.

I was riding my bike to school today when two rednecks in a pickup truck drove past me and yelled, "Get off the road you fucking idiot". I instinctively flipped them off but I didn't say anything.

Got suggestions on what to yell back in these situations?

This. Takes away their satisfaction of pissing you off, confuses them, and doesn't really escalate the situation.

Or catch up to the m at the next light and discretely throw a handful of roofing nails under their tire. Those big truck tires are expensive!

Nobody in a car will ever take anything you say seriously.

I read a post on a bike forum once about a man who lets out many pronouncements of doom to the driver of a Navigator who was rude to him, and he reported with some satisfaction that the driver roared off with a look of worry on his face that gas would indeed spike in prices and drive him bankrupt. Had I been posting on that forum, I would assure him that no such thought crossed the driver's mind.

I bike more than I drive, but I drive often enough to know that kars are king. Nothing you say as a biker will ever come off as meaningful. The best you could do is make him feel stupid by ignoring him or smiling and waving. The worst is make him angry and encourage him to actually hurt you, which is easily done in a car vs bike situation.

At least in the SF Bay area, drivers are scared shitless of being sued or arrested for swiping a biker so they are really careful.

Everytime I almost get swiped by a careless car I give them the evil eye and they look pretty scared.

188 KB Republicans want to defund Amtrak Anonymous 01/20/11(Thu)23:00 No.249948   [Reply]
Some Republicans in the House want to end Amtrak's $1.5 billion annual subsidy, which would put Amtrak out of business except for the Acela Express, which turns a profit.

    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/dr-gridlock/2011/01/spending_cuts_would_hit_amtrak.html

The proposal probably won't go anywhere, though. When George W. Bush attempted to zero out Amtrak funding Republicans in rural areas served by Amtrak said fuck no and Amtrak's federal funding was actually slightly increased.

Joe Biden isn't going to let shit go down like this.

    >> Anonymous 01/20/11(Thu)23:27 No.249956
You know, I don't actually have a problem with that proposal, Amtrak service is a failure for much of the country.

A couple weeks ago I had to travel from southern Colorado to southern Minnesota and I did some looking at what different modes of transport would cost:

Airline; $400-600 round trip (depending on airline, and how far in advance tickets could be bought), 6 hours one way including the drive to/from airports and waiting.

Car with fair gas mileage: $240 round trip, 16 hour drive one way. (had to go with this, sadly, and another five hours were added to travel time by bad weather on the return trip)

Amtrak: $550 round trip, 1 hour to drive to the nearest station, 19 hours to Chicago, A TWENTY-THREE HOUR WAIT, then another 7 hours to my final destination. The way back would only have a 1 hour layover, so average time would be 39 hours, one way.

I helped a friend build one. It is a blast to ride.

It is not at all like a real motorcycle, nor is it like a bicycle. It is just a fun toy.

Protip: it's a toy, if you want real transportation, a small motorcycle would be better.

pic related; my friends motorized bike is almost exactly like this one
    >> Anonymous 01/20/11(Thu)21:22 No.249887
Some people have an actual use for them, people using bikes for more than purely personal transportation. Probably most people using them are just lazy and the sort of nerd enamored of technological complication for its own ego-assuaging sake, as opposed to nerds enamored of the right technology as an actual means to making the best tool.

electric free ride bike. Kind of cool but, not sure if this is really better than a lighter downhill bike. The problem with the concept is the weight. 70lbs makes this much less maneuverable than a regular bike.

For me at least, a large part of why I like bikes so much is that they are very simple and straight forward.

A motor and all the attachments would take away most of the fun and would be a nuisance.

The Metro Gold Line to Pasadena is a train you might ride.

It has low ridership (which results in a high cost to operate per passenger mile, the highest in the Metro Rail system) but is generally fast except for a slow street-running part.
