    isint that there to keep the chain/derailler from going into the spokes in case the whole thing jumps off, that seems like it would be necessary on a mtb.

    true story, i got that raleigh road bike at a pawn shop and it was fucked up, but it tried to ride it once i got home, and i didnt know how the road bike shifters worked, and everything came off the biggest gear and messed up the rear wheel.

    My personal stance on pie plates is that if they're clear plastic on the rear wheel, leave them on. If they're the chromed kind or on the crank, take em off.

    The odds of having a catastrophic derailer destruction/failure are extremely low, but it can happen and if does, your limit screws may not keep the chain in place, a little bit of plastic weighs next to nothing, isn't particularly noticeable aesthetically, and is cheap insurance for your drive-side spokes.

    Ive been coming and posting here for a while as a bikefag, but now im studying abroad in Budapest and left my bike in the states so i guess im a trainfag now. But i miss riding bikes so much, and the city is so flat, so i am considering getting a fixed gear, or perhaps a cheap used roadie. Anybody know where to get decent quality bikes in hungary on the cheap? I know nothing about european vendors.
