    Anyone here hop freight trains?

I've been thinking of hopping a few to see if I can make it across the country without dying with nothing but a tent and my wits. Are there still a lot of dangerous hobos/criminals on the rails?

    I don't get it.

I have been tramping for years and am wondering if the rails are still as good as ever.

It will tear off your arm.

it is a good way to get killed or arrested.
But why would you bring a tent? Do you have wits to bring? If you answer 'yes' what makes you think so?

"I'm going out on the road to find out what it's like to be poor and needy and then I'm going to make a picture about it."
"If you'll permit me to say so, sir, the subject is not an interesting one. The poor know all about poverty and only the morbid rich would find the topic glamorous."
"But I'm doing it for the poor. Don't you understand?"
"I doubt if they would appreciate it, sir. They rather resent the invasion of their privacy, I believe quite properly, sir. Also, such excursions can be extremely dangerous, sir. I worked for a gentleman once who likewise, with two friends, accoutered themselves as you have, sir, and then went out for a lark. They have not been heard from since."

It's just for the experience. There is something about hoping on a train not knowing where it is going that is calling to me...I have always liked trains, and I guess getting close to one in its purest form is attractive.

Still, I would most likely die...but I have been asking myself lately, isn't it worth the risk? Trying to live out your dream while you are young and full of spirit. I sit here and know that my time is running out, and as thoughts of old age enter my brain the idea, no matter how dumb and deadly, keeps calling to me.

I'd do it for sure if I had someone experienced to take with me...but I doubt I could get anyone to accompany me, let alone someone who has already done it.

Do it to get off the Grid. It's the only way to be sure.

Angry Train is seemingly angry at the mention of hobos.
