Sydney city's local rail network: "Cityrail". So very shit, its earned the nickname "Shittyrail" and even has its own slander website 'shityrail.info'. If you're not from Sydney, be proud of your rail network!

Pictured is the Millenium train, installed on Sydney tracks in 2007. Its a fairly good train. Sadly, idiots have completely vandalised every single Millenium and I haven't seen a carriage which doesn't have the windows scratched. Most of the trains on the Sydney network are old and abominably unhygienic. When the older trains brake, they release an awful burnt-plastic smell, and ive gotten several ass-diseases from sitting on their dirty seats which they never clean.

If you live in the suburbs, you're likely to be seated at a 'Comeng' model train. These were issued in 1974, and are still in use now.

The state government has seriously mismanaged and underdeveloped the Cityrail service. People are currently up in arms against the proposition of a 2 billion dollar upgrade to the upper-North metro, which some see as more of as benefiting private contractors rather than the population.

    >The state government has seriously mismanaged and underdeveloped the Cityrail service.

On the contrary, it's not mismanagement, but deliberate organized corruption.

Yeah, good point. There was this massive-fucking article on it in the Sydney Morning Herald a few weeks ago.

I regularly do the Main North Line (Sydney<->Newcastle) ... What's with all the train guards getting off before all the clubbing drunk teenagers get on after Dora Creek? -_-

    For what purpose?
On a constructive note, what would you do to fix it? Melbourne has the ptuahttp://www.ptua.org.au/, Sydney got anything like that?

NSW government's in a massive budget crisis ATM, with some billion dollars in debt. The problem has been exacerbated by the government's opposition to privatising its electricity, which has led to the former premier, Morris Iemma, to be sacked (he was sacked jsut a few weeks ago).

Really, the shit rail is just caused by really poor management. More money is spent on spin than actual progress.

And prosecuting 'whistleblowers', who're really just Managers trying to do their jobs properly by calling BS on bad deals.

So, what, are the abos the ones vandalizing the trains?

speaking from Melbourne where all the utlilties and public transport are privatised I can assure you that NSW plan to privatise its electricity aint a good idea.
And your next statement says its not even a matter of funding, but management, so I guess you dont need to sell off anything.

I have only seen an abo outside Redfern once in my whole life. I'm starting the think that aboriginals are a government conspiracy.
