I've had the privilege of chatting with and meeting a lot of great people from 4chan over the past 8.5 years, and lost touch with many.
If we used to chat/hang, drop me a line at moot@4chan.org or on AIM at MOOTCHAT. And if we haven't, feel free to say hi.

Introducing /wsg/ - Worksafe GIF

Update: /rs/ - Rapidshares is fixed—sorry for the downtime there. Also I think we've fixed most issues with boards.4chan.org and sys.4chan.org. Keep your fingers crossed!

I think we all need to chill the hell out on this board.

It's sad how bent we all get about how to ride bikes.

Is it that big a deal? Should we just learn some tolerance and just hate cars?

Fuck cars.
>>
Not during summer, /n/ has gotten really hostile over little things.

Trying to be a gentleman gets tiring.
>>
Cars are so faggoty.

I really think they're a virus that's infected the world.

But they are useful and convenient. Just expensive and dangerous.
>>
Its just so counter-cultural to hate cars. God, I get hard just thinking how cool I seem when I tell everyone that I ride a bike and am "not part of the problem".
>>

0/10. you tried too hard.

do i smell a /n/ vs /o/ feud coming?
>>
>>365135
this used to be a helpful board with some interesting stuff. anymore it seems to just be thread after thread of cars vs bikes, fixed & ss vs geared, and how do i buy cheap bike.

also, idk how the mods would feel about it, but include a series of links at the top of to how to build a fixed gear and how to buy a bike. /fit/ did this and, as far as i can tell, it cleaned up the board quite a bit

I would like to see a break from other topics like "why bike when you can drive?" "the point of owning a fixed gear" "how cyclists hate cars and visa versa" but these subjects are so discussion based they cant be summed up with an outside article. and unfortunately they are the main reason for anything to ever move off of page 1.

lol /fit/s sticky didn't help to much
Most threads over there are READ THE STICKY

or i don't want to read the sticky tell me what to do
>>
>>365147
eh, it was just a thought.
>>
>>365147
i kind of feel compelled to write out a response to "wat biek is gud" and "how do i fixee" every time the threads come up. if there were a sticky my perceived moral obligation to help would be greatly reduced.

>>365150
I totally agree we need a sticky. It's just funny how mucked up /fit/ is with READ THE DAMN STICKY
>>
>>365161
i have tomorrow off work, maybe i can find time to at least start a comprehensive how-to article on fixed conversion. if the mods will support me, ill complete it to the best of my ability, an if not i may just keep it and copy/paste each time i feel compelled to respond to those threads.
>>
>>365165
Look at /fit/ the sticky they have is linking to a different site, i think we could do the same with sheldon brown

They blame it on summer, but the truth is there's only so much you can talk about when it comes to bicycles once you're tired of bitching about cars, bitching about fixies and exhausted with giving entry-level consumer advice.

Bikes aren't complicated machines; a discussion on doing a full restore on a bike and, for instance, changing the oil on a Toyota require about the same amount of technical knowhow. I mean really the only interesting conversation you could have about bikes right now is their newfound role as a fashion accessory. However, that pisses off all of the cyclists on /n/ at once so yea... good luck talking about that.

Skipped over is a wealth of interesting discussion about city infrastructure, public transportation, civil engineering and urban planning. Not to mention ideas for transcontinental and intercontinental transport that aren't simply the cyclists regurgitating some liberal blog's desire to be more European with HSR.

We do occasionally have more technical discussions about drive trains, odd bikes, and weird builds that don't come up often - that's the advanced /n/, right up there with infrastructure threads and engineering threads. Interesting stuff.

But you kind of hit the nail on the head there, bikes are for doing, not talking about, which is why the most vapid conversations (fixies, helmets, general commuting troubles) are so often made the loudest.

I sincerely don't mind the "wut biek iz gud" threads because they're easy to deal with and they're genuinely helpful for the newbies. What's really getting me nowadays is the greentext threads about commuting and "feels," it's like they're trying to turn this place into /r9k/ of bikes. It's the kind of stuff that drowns out all the rest of the threads because everyone posts because it's so low-effort, nobody reads because it's so low-content, and it drowns out the good shit especially planes, boats and trains.

Automobiles, antithesis of my two wheels.
I spin free, wind in my hair, with little care.
All the day, spent in the sun.
I ride to just have fun.
Ill take my time, as fast or slow as i want.
Haste is not the way.
Slow....

Cars are always in a hurry.. makes me sad
>>
OP is a fag.

I read and enjoy the greentext. (But then, I am from /r9k/. So, there ya go.)
