03/15/12(Thu)15:31 No.340225>>340218 In
the U.S., people can't fathom traveling anywhere without a car because
there's almost no infrastructure accommodating bicycles. Bikes are
treated as recreational vehicles, so all the bike paths are built to
connect to parks instead of commercial centers, making it difficult and
dangerous to commute to work or run errands using a bicycle.
In
my city, the best you can hope for is a 1.5-foot bike lane separated
from the road only by a thin white line of paint that drivers largely
ignore. And that's only on suburban roads, the main streets don't have
bike lanes. Motorists here don't know how to deal with pedestrians or
cyclists.
What also grinds my gears is that I rarely see a car
with more than one person in it. Sedans, trucks, SUVs, all with only the
driver and no cargo or passengers. What a waste of energy and space. |
