Ask an Israel Railways engineer anything.

When does Denmark get their IC3 DMU's back? We've been so stupid to buy from the Italians, AnsaldoBreda, they are over a fucking decay late now! and aint working, so, can we get the 40~ units you have? They merge with our own, and as we don't have anything else, and wont in nearest time future, because of the electric upgrade, we kinda need them!

The IC3s have been mostly phases out by Siemens's Viaggio Lights. There are still a few in service but they're very rarely used. I believe they're supposed to be phased out entirely by the end of the year, although since the latest orders from Siemens and Bombardier look like they'll be arriving early it might be even sooner than that. I guess you can have them, although if your railway is electric it won't help - all of our IC3s are diesel.

When were they ever? That's only with Egged - they know damn well we would never put up with that crap.

So you mean to tell me that Jews today are riding German trains?

The jokes are writing themselves, ladies and gentlemen.

Yep, pretty much. The execs wanted a train custom designed and built from scratch specifically for the railway and the only two companies willing to do so were Siemens and Bombardier. They both submitted their designs, the execs liked Siemen's design better and now we have the Viaggio Lights. That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if politics played a roll as well - the government probably figured we owed Germany one after those free submarines and being a public company the final say in all matters ultimately rests with them. Still, it'd probably have been Siemens regardless of politics - the Viaggio Light is one hell of a train that's equal to if not superior to anything Bombardier could have possibly proposed.

What kind of routes do you run? Since Israel is a small country, is it just like one big commuter network?

We're both intercity and commuter (somewhat similar to the UK's rail network, or America's NE corridor line). Pic related, the lines at the moment - as you can see the mainline starts at Nahariya and heads south via Haifa and Tel Aviv, and from there it splits into a clusterfuck of lines continuing south/east. We're currently going through a massive expansion and when it's finished the lines will go as far south as Eilat and as far east as Irbid (in Jordan). Our first high-speed rail linking Tel Aviv and Jerusalem is also under construction, and I'm hoping to get a few of those services when they come online. As for me personally, I'd say 95% of my services are passenger, mostly divided evenly between commuter trains and express services. About 5% are freight, which mostly consists of ferrying container between the ports of Ashdod and Haifa or from the mineral refineries on the Dead Sea (the line to Dimona continues east to the Dead Sea) to one of those two ports. Ever engineer hates them - because pretty much all the budget goes to the passenger sector and maybe 1% to freight, the freight trains are 40 year old pieces of complete crap. They keep promising us they'll get around to upgrading them eventually, but the passenger sector has priority and with the new trains and station renovations and line expansion and what not they have no budget at all left over for it.

    Are you a jew?

What do you think of jews?

Do you find it hard to run a train when everyone is trying to leech money from everywhere and not pay for safety?
