Fucking useless Pedal-head fags posting thread after thread on my /n/ here is photos of a streetcar break down
lead car doors were sensing the back doors were open -- lock the brakes
>>316800sorry meant locking the brakes ask why he did not use the safety over ride he said he needed a monitor
so instead of having some employee watch and say "Yup -- the doors are not open" -- as he moved the empty street car to the yard -- they took another street car out of service to "push" ( ?) it
the hook up
them leaving
and the back up of streetcars
nobody gives a fuck post some bikes
why would you do this ?go to offending door, lock door down, place sticker about door inoperableif retarded door still does not cooperate flip safety override because you yourself just hard locked itkeep on rollin till your scheduled stop near a depotservice shitty door
>>316817theres a reason i dont ride the TTC. aside from it being way too expensive, the service sucks, especially with a schedule like "well arrive when i feel like it" and the employees are dickheads. for the 100 bucks a month you blow on a metropass to get your sorry ass around the city for the summer, you could spend that money on a bike and get around the city faster for 5 years.
>>316817because "those are the rules" and the TTC is stupid -- Could have put street car out of service , flip safety over ride switch -- move two stops -- to Victoria street and diverted on to it - and waited for someone to come "Monitor" his trip to the Car yard -- No interruption -- no back ups but Drivers are not allowed to think for themselves -- problem of putting those phones in all the streetcars PS -- Here is your Fucking Bike - Pedal Head Fag
>>316851Shit we do that all the time. With the older models the folding doors sometimes got stuck when somebody jamed in while it was closing and then people did not know what to do. What you did was just yank on it and press it shut for the lock to engage... problem solved.
>>316861Yeah it was most likely grabbed and yanked open by someone evading a fare boardng by the rear doors -- but it is the TTC -- they act like the public touching anything like it is a bomb ..which is funny because did computer work for a place that actually handled explosives and chemical weapons .... the Russian scientists would like to joke and offer me a vial of nerve gas to take home .. for wife .. ran out of my own Street car pics so some from the archives
>>316870isnt it time for toronto to get new streetcars anyways ?
>>316956Well, they had an open house a few days ago, but we are not sure when we are getting them. inb4 "lol National Post"http://news.nationalpost.com/2011/11/14/six-serious-questions-about-torontos-new-streetcars/>>316826>Bus and street car bunching upThey should just use GPS to track the buses, I saw 4 buses (2 39 and 2 199 buses) heading west when I was going east today. This is the worst thing about streetcars, they can bunch up even worseTTC (or the City) should just bitch at the prov. government for more money unless they want to see Toronto eventually become a giant parking lot. Hope that's a Post-Secondary Pass since regular price is 120 bucks, which makes it an even more terrible value unless you literally use it daily
>>317004Sounds like just another streetcar run-down operation going on for decades. Sap funding, deny upgrades, claim this is a fundamental problem with streetcars.I wonder when the emotional response to a rail vehicle on streets fades out to obscurity: they're just really big buses, fit for purpose anywhere you'd need a really big bus.Inability to divert, you say? You could even replace frequent small bus routes with streetcars parallel to the nearby high volume streetcar that suffers periodic disruption. The high volume route is so stupidly profitable with large streetcars you fucking bet you can afford a parallel street for it.Unless you're in a middle of a hostile run-down operation.
>>317091>they're just really big busesAt least the new ones will be actually bigger than a bus, as opposed to the old CLRVs
>>317091>inability to divert how often do you see buses change their route? rare and glacial speeds in my area
streetcar/tram is superior for city and urban areacarries more peoplecapable of more frequent operationclean, no noise no pollutionyou want a bus bellowing past and belching at sidewalk cafes?
>>317140What are the disadvantages though?
>>317091Streetcars is fine since they can carrie a lot more people without resorting to subways (especially if the subway lines will not make a return on the investments for a long time even with the population destiny goes up) and downtown Toronto is well served with streetcars. However, there are those cases where the way TTC runs is so antiquated that people feels they are stuck at the 20th Century. See >>316808 , that is tragic, etc.I wouldn't consider TTC "run-down", but ...>TTC ridership gone up every year>No higher level of government funding>LOL budget cuts because the new mayor is a dumb fat idiot for various reasons (ie. hurr durr need subways/underground LRV so surface LRVs/etc. won't get in the way of cars and now it will suffer a budget overrun)
>>317148there are nonebetter in every way>>317149streetcars/trams dont go in subways or elevated or railways* they go on the roadperhaps they can go on a grade seperated section in a highway median strip, but thats it*well, there is the German style of Tram-Train, this tram will do a route in a town, then go onto the pre-existing railway to go to the next town or city. Good way to increase rail transportation in places with populations in the high tens of thousands or low hundreds of thousandsBut the American notion of just sticking a lightrail vehicle on a freight line, or putting in a lightrail where it ought to be a proper subway/elevated (L.A. Blue line) will not work and backfire
>>317156I'm perfectly aware of that as I'm keeping up with the city's happenings regarding our transit "expansion" plan. However, parts of the streetcars on one of the route has to go underground for a good portion due to lack of space.http://www3.ttc.ca/PDF/About_the_TTC/Transit_City/Eglinton_LRT_route_diagram1.pdf Route in question, and our mayor wants to put everything underground due to what I mentioned beforeToronto is worse in terms of rail because the TTC (subway and streetcar) runs on its own unique gauge at 1495mm and our rails and the new LRV runs on standard gauge, which is 60mm narrower
>>3171611) rebuild the tracks, expensive but explain it to the tax payers as a guarantee for long term savings2) if you place a large enough order with the manufacturer (Bombadier I imagine since its Canada) you can negotiate the price of the vehicles, lrn2economyofscale
>>317161that is a weired gauge
>>317161they go through crowded areas in Melbourneits no problem1) OBEY THE YELLOW - cars dont drive on the tracks2) ban cars, extend the side walk, have a lovely plaza
>>317171http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxHQVsNU79k
>>317169Actually we are ordering off Bombardier for the exact reasons you mentioned, and other nearby cities are planning LRVs as well so we can "unify" them.>>317173Cars don't drive on the LRV tracks / dedicated streetcar tracks, but for other streetcar routes, cars do drive on them because there is literally no spaceBanning cars is impossible due to mayors "hurr durr ending war on the car" when we should be having "war on gridlock so less people will need to drive and take transit so less cars (mostly occupied with only one person) will clog the road", also, Eglinton is also one of the larger arterial roads in the city so even closing part of it off will cause a shitstorm with businesses
>>317196Closing off lanes or entire street sections from cars to improve streetcar stops or track geometry will generally improve throughput and reachability. It's however a widespread phenomenon for business owners to not have any idea on how or why street transit works.
>>317211Well, some business will probably blame downtime caused by constructions and reduced traffic from car drivers (there was a lot of controversy about the St. Clair right of way due to time and cost overruns and various things). And then there's also the problem of Toronto cannot into urban planning and working 2 shifts to build transit to reduce construction times.http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/toronto/drivers-warned-to-prepare-for-lrt-construction-woes/article2239087/
