    Should SUVs be banned?

    y/n
    >> Anonymous 08/16/11(Tue)21:28 No.298914
SUVs are useless, if I wanted to seat 7~8 I'd buy a van, if I wanted to haul things a van would be better. If I wanted to tow a trailer, a pickup or a van could do it. If I wanted a flexible DD a Honda Fit is more cargo capable than a SUV.

What if you want to take you, your wife, 2 kids, your boat, and a week's worth of supplies up to your lakeside cabin in the mountains?

What if you are a contractor and need to take your crew of 6 guys, some tools, and a trailer from one job side to another?

SUV's have their uses. If you have a larger family and need to tow stuff they are make more sense over having a separate mini-van and pick-up truck. The hit in fuel economy of having an SUV versus having a full sized truck is negligible.

However many of the SUV's in production today are based off of car frames with car engines which means they can't tow anything. They also lack 4 wheel drive which makes them less useful in the snow.

    Maybe.

Before they picked up the various stigmas they have now, including the term SUV, things like Chevrolet's Suburban and International-Harvester's Travelall were bought by people out in the boonies that needed the better capablitiy of station wagon that was mounted on a truck chassis, which is what they used to amount to. Station wagons eventually fell out of favor to vans, and vans have in turn fallen to SUV's. Truck-based SUV's are even starting to fall to the car-based CUV's.

I feel that SUV's have their place, but it's not in suburban or urban areas, and so should not be offered in such areas.

Contractors and us military types all have real pickups, like the F150 4 door types, which pretty much already holds 6 people and tows.

What if I need a really really really safe-looking 'car', to keep my idiot selfish wife happy when she drives our obese two kids to school?

What if I'm aspiring to appear more successful than I really am?

(LOL-- some of the streets in Newport, North Sydney, are impassable because the narrow cliff-hugging roads in that Well'to'do area are choked by SUVs, and traffic crawls through at <10km/h. It's worst than when people park their powerboats on the street. LOL#2 is me visiting the girlfriend who lives there on a motorbike, and being the only traffic that doesn't have a problem getting through.)

no. banning SUVs is something only pretentious greenie hipster faggots would do. I really don't see why I should give a fuck if douche bags drive them, it lets me single them out more easily.

    >2002 astro van

Those are not in production any more. They were based off of a truck frame and were offered with 4WD.

Family had a 93' astro van with the 4.3L V6. The thing got terrible gas mileage, but it could tow/haul as much as a 1/2 ton truck. My uncle has it now and it still runs with over 200k on it.

    >Implying I can't take a wife 2 kids supplies and town a boat in a van

Good luck towing anything meaningful in that van.

    >>298936
They hold 5 people and it is cramped in the back seat.

    winrar!

Shame they don't produce station wagons anymore.

This is a van, it can seat 9, still have more room than your SUV and tows a trailer.

I can paint "Free Candy" on the side and park it on the side of a school and get free lolis.

This Ford Transit would beat a SUV in all criterias both on road and off road, with it's turbo o diesel it's fuel economy is better than most shitty SUVs too.

No one on earth should mention a honda fit as being a practical vehicle. Even if it is, it looks like a 6 month old aborted fetus.

Everything I don't like needs to be banned

Therefore the following are now illegal: driving too slow, fat chicks, gay porn and polenta.

Why bother banning? Rising fuel costs will drive them all off the road within 2 decades, all the while public favour will turn against them

why? in the USA, it was the government's own rules that boosted their popularity

some years back car gas MPG requirements were raised so much that larger cars were mostly discontinued.... light trucks were exempt from the "car" fuel economy requirements, and light trucks still had lots of interior room. so that's what THE PUBLIC started buying. a large percentage of the popluation does not want to be stuck with trying to live with a tiny car. (me for one)

besides, anyone driving a larger vehicle is already penalized, in that they pay more costs directly anyway,,,, why should you give a fuck what kinda car other people drive? it's somebody else spending their money on what they want.
    >> Anonymous 08/17/11(Wed)08:49 No.298973
SUV's were created and marketted to the blockheads because the car companies needed to increase revenues in the face of declining units sold. There is simply no margin left selling small , efficient, reliable cars.
Banning SUVs would put the auto industry out of business -sooner rather than later.

1/3 of those people couldn't afford a prius, which is just about as ugly.
1/3 of those people have terrible taste in vehicles.

I'll stick with my pickup. Toss the bikes in the back and camping gear, and just go. Not to mention I hate driving anything automatic. Nothing like watching assholes skid out and almost have their own boats pull them into the water at the launch.

"WHAT?? I'LL JUST DRIVE IT LESS!"

    THOUGHT EXPERIMENT!

What if we just stopped wasting money on road maintenance and everyone drove SUV's?
