Americans don't use the term interurban anymore.
In the US we have commuter rail and intercity rail.
Commuter
rail is regional and intercity rail is between major cities with fewer
stops. There are three types of intercity rail and they are all operated
by Amtrak, the Northeast Corridor, state-supported routes and long
distance routes.
Commuter rail tends to be operated at the county
level, at least where I'm from. Most transit systems are operated at
the country level as well.
Intercity rail is supported by states and the federal government.
But California is a place where even the light rail and subway goes to suburbia. |
