the Austrian federal railways (ÖBB) were first to buy Bombardier's Talent as a non-diesel version.

it took many years till the technical troubles got cured...

    >>288965
Well, since ÖBB did all the leg work, I hope Amtrak looks to these and doesn't pull some dick move and build something from scratch…

a commuter seems to me to be from a city centre to and through suburbia
and a locomotive hauling bilevels feels to me more like a regional or interurban
so wtf is that doing as a commuter?
    >> Anonymous 07/06/11(Wed)22:10 No.289019
    LOL
I take the Needham Line everyday. The MBTA needs to replace all of its rolling stock
    >> Anonymous 07/06/11(Wed)22:23 No.289028
    >>289018

Americans don't use the term interurban anymore.

In the US we have commuter rail and intercity rail.

Commuter rail is regional and intercity rail is between major cities with fewer stops. There are three types of intercity rail and they are all operated by Amtrak, the Northeast Corridor, state-supported routes and long distance routes.

Commuter rail tends to be operated at the county level, at least where I'm from. Most transit systems are operated at the country level as well.

Intercity rail is supported by states and the federal government.

But California is a place where even the light rail and subway goes to suburbia.

Holy crap, I keep seeing these weird engines all over the commuter line to boston and I have no idea wtf they are. Shit keeps me up at night.

Not all of it. The commuter rail locomotives need to go, but new ones are on order. There's nothing particularly wrong with the Kawasaki bilevels that I know of, and we have that order of Hyundai Rotem bilevels coming too. I think in an ideal world we would replace some or all loco-hauled commuter rail trains with multiple units, but we'll have to wait...
