with DC under the federal government, they could try using that as a 'demonstrator city' for rolling out the expansion of existing and building new public transportation systems
    rapid transit, commuter train, streetcar/lightrail.

    >>163675
Well for the District, just around the Federal buildings, the only improvement necessary would be streetcars/lighter-rail/trams. Other parts of the District need MetroRail access before anything else, but NW isn't going to want any easier access to that section by the people in SE.

the metro kinda sucks in northern va. It basically goes less than 10 minutes outside the city by car. Needs to be expanded about 10-15 more miles out.

Atlanta has byfar the WORST public transit system. It has barely been expanded since the 1970s and its going bankrupt and raising fares. Its also unreliable, slow, full of nigger ghetto types... They need to expand farther north because the population is shifting to the northern suburbs.

Gwinett and Cobb counties voted against allowing Marta Rails back in the 1970s because they were worried about the kind of people it would draw to their areas and they didn't want to have to pay an extra sales tax to support it.

    >Atlanta began as a railroad town and it still serves as a major rail junction, with several freight lines belonging to Norfolk Southern and CSX intersecting below street level in downtown. It is the home of major classification yards for both railroads, Inman Yard on the NS and Tilford Yard on the CSX. Long-distance passenger service is provided by Amtrak's Crescent train, which connects Atlanta with many cities between New Orleans and New York. The Amtrak station is located several miles north of downtown — and it lacks a connection to the MARTA rail system. An ambitious, long-standing proposal would create a Multi-Modal Passenger Terminal downtown, adjacent to Philips Arena and the Five Points MARTA station, which would link, in a single facility, MARTA bus and rail, intercity bus services, proposed commuter rail services to other Georgia cities, and Amtrak.
    Good Grief.
How the fuck are you people going to implement high speed rail when you can't even grasp the concept of an interchange.

Marta buses and other bus lines are already connected with every Marta station. Building a facility to do that would be a complete waste of money. Besides, who the fuck rides Amtrak? If they needed to get onto Marta, I'm sure they could take a bus or walk a few blocks to the arts center station

Having a regional rail interchange with a metro/rapid-transit system and/or commuter train system allows for smother transition and ultimately expansion of more services for both because it becomes an easier and obvious option to use rail.
For example I can catch the commuter train from anywhere in Melbourne metropolitan area to the city, get off at Southern Cross Station and walk to another platform, and catch one of the VLine trains to the regional cities or to country Victoria or an interstate service. This is true most places.
And if you intend on high speed rail, you cant have the station in the middle of nowhere unsupported by the local rail system - makes getting to it and getting around once you arrive somewhat of a bother, you need to interchange.

People in Vancouver certainly do love blindly boasting about their city, thats for sure...
