    It's beautiful...

Why can't we have anything like this in Dallas/Fort Worth?!

    Very sort of.

And that's all the Dallas side. Tarrant County just has five TRE stations—and three of them are in Fort Worth. (Hurst/Bell is barely in Hurst.)

buck up, me boy! at least you don't live in seattle. we literally had to fight tooth and nail to get our new light rail system a couple of months ago!

There isn't even a fight here; we're only getting two new rail lines between now and 2030: one in 2011, and one in 2027.

    There's just no funding available...

Did Berlin finally manage to extend their tram-line to the western part? I mean it's only 20 years since the reunification and 20 years of promises for a city-wide tram.

Oh, and since you are/were at Berlin Alexanderplatz: did you visit Loxx? The wet dream of anyone who is or ever was into model trains. (I see, they have a special this night. No idea what it's about.)

Is there any sort of community group or local councils pushing for more & better rail? Get involved.
Living in Melbourne Australia I can assue that lightrail is all well and good, but on its own you'll have problems - a commuter trains got greater volume and better for long distances.
A rapid transit or metro might also be advisable in a city

    Layout size:
    loxx: 600m²
miwula: 1150m² (You may deduct about 100m² for the Baltic Sea, if you don't like ships.)

...and maybe it's a personal thing, but the arrangement in Berlin seems so lifeless and cheap, when you compare it to Hamburg.

Maybe try moving to a town that actually invests in mass transit? Portland related.

What? 8th largest city in the US. 4th largest metro area in the US. 10th largest metro area in the Americas. Not much gets bigger in the US unless you're in NY, LA, or Chicago, and they all do have that and better.

    NYC needs lightrail.

Sad thing about OP's pic is that it is probably a brand new train. Many of the trains are scratched up and messed up by drunk, shiftless kids

with New Yorks subway and elevated, streetcars or lightrail could be really great addition
    >> Anonymous 10/19/09(Mon)15:16 No.123631
NYfag here. I'd like to see cars of Manhattan, period. Taxis are ok.
    >> Anonymous 10/19/09(Mon)17:11 No.123641
You could use streetcars or lightrail vehicles in New York in two ways
to supplement the existing public subways and elevated - look at the Melbourne tram map >>123624 in the South East of the city trams intersect with train stations allowing you to get off on and board the other
Providing public transportation where it would be prohibitive to extend the trains-the lines would terminate at or intersect with a number of existing stations, thats how South London got their trams http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tramlink

    >>123625
Erm, no. The tram in OP's pic still looks like that today. And it's brothers and sisters too.

There was a proposal to turn 42nd Street into a light rail Disney mall type thing. It keeps coming up every now and then.

in Melbourne Australia the trains have only begun to look like this, it is because they do not have enough rolling stock forcing them to keep trains in service longer forgoing cleaning and even maintenance until there is a major fault.
