Doesn't riding your bicycle everyday make you want to kill yourself? Only reason to ride around on a bike is if you're an 8 year old or a homeless guy.

Speaking of which why do you never really see homeless women?

all the homeless men kill them, then probably burn the corpse in one of their garbage can fires.
    >> Anonymous 09/08/09(Tue)17:33 No.113564
you never see homeless women because they turn to prostitution before they go on he street.

Everytime I cycle to work due to traffic I get there at least 30 mins before bus would have and about 10 mins before a car would.

Actually, I find that on the rare days when I am forced to drive to work I feel sluggish and unhappy, whereas after a nice ride my body is ready to go and my brain is active, even before coffee. I can survive an evening shift without a morning ride, but on mornings without the bike I'm pretty much useless for the first couple of hours.

I can ride home faster than I can drive home, and I can get there faster on the days that I feel energetic enough to sprint up the big hills.

Not if it has high end components and a carbon fiber frame.

Too bad you can't make highway speeds
Hey, at least you're the fastest 10 year old in your neighborhood with the JDM bike and all.

No, I have a car for that.
    >> Anonymous 09/09/09(Wed)01:37 No.113629
I only drive to work when it is raining hard or snowing. The rest of the time the bike is a hell of a lot nicer and quicker.

Generally using the roads makes me want to kill myself.

That's why I commute by train!

Anyway, stop complaining - if all the cyclists you see were in a car, the roads you drive along would be a whole lot more congested, and it would take you longer to get to work!
    >> Anonymous 09/09/09(Wed)09:54 No.113665
    >>113619

well, only a 10 year old would think something like that. anyway, you shouldn't harass this guy for commuting to work by bike just because you're too fat to ride one.

Why would I spend money on gas when I can just use my legs for free?

fuel for an automobile is actually less expensive on miles per $ basis that fuel for a human powered bike.
assume your car get about 20 MPG car, how many calories do you burn riding 20 miles? well the sandwich that replaces those calories costs more than a gallon of low test, probably more than a gallon of 100LL even

Your concept of cost is flawed. You are not taking into account insurance, maintenance, health benefits, production, pollution, resource depletion, or ragheads smashing airliners into buildings.

If you aren't a cycling hippy you can see that time=money.

    Less money pedaling away-
More money driving which is faster..
    You make more money

Money which you then spend on gym memberships to get your fat ass into shape. You are thinking in terms of gross profit, not net profit.

hurr I live in america burbs where every shop is miles apart with only a freeway in between.

I live 10 minutes by bike from the city center. Yes, I hate it, I would rather live in the country, but tis how it is when you have no car.

Because you body is a limited resource and the more you use it the more it breaks down, there is actually scientific proof that back that up. Unlike the claims that exercise and that weight loss is healthy and the BMI is an effect gauge of wellness which have no basis.
    >> Anomynous 09/10/09(Thu)00:15 No.113775
I actually live in a suburban area and can ride faster to work than I can drive, but that's because my city has the absolute worst traffic planning and street light timing you can imagine. And if I ride to the university I'm actually slower in reaching the relevant parking lot than I would be by car, but I ultimately get to class considerably faster because I don't have to search for a place to park, and with the bike I can park right in front of the classroom building's doors, which removes the need for a long walk to and from the car parking.

And as far as fuel costs go - $.05 of rice provides enough calories to cover 15 miles at a moderate pace according to my simple calculations, assuming you have a car that gets 40 mpg in the city, gasoline would have to cost a little less than 14 cents per gallon (lol) for the fuel costs to be equivalent. Including maintenance costs would make the cost per mile even more in favor of the bicycle.
    >> Anonymous 09/10/09(Thu)00:18 No.113776
Yes, for all intents and purposes, it is free to bike.

No one eats more specifically because they cycle to work/school rather then drive.

There's no guarantee you'll live long enough to miss your legs, better to enjoy life and accept what comes.
