Why
get a cd? These days, it's no longer about sound quality, unless you
use something way ghetto, like [shudder] limewire. Seriously, someone
tell me the positive side of cds. Is it for the artwork? I understand
that it can be cool to physically 'have' the cd, but, since we're on
moral arguments, cds pollute. Sure, not a whole lot, just the case, cd,
booklet, box if you buy online which many people do, etc. It might not
seem like a lot, but every i dunno, one in twenty people (in the word)
has a cd collection. Also, the kind of plastic cds are made out of
deteriorates extremely slowly (a lot slower than normal plastic). Downloading
cds does not make you a morally corrupt person, it simply means you
feel that your money is better spent on things you need to spend money
on. Don't give me that 'starving artist needs your money' bullshit.
Or that 'you're robbing your favorite bands!' That's fucking stupid.
Yes, they are annoyed they're not getting more $, but they should
realize, as some artists do, that cds are becoming obsolete. If you
feel like supporting someone, buy a t shirt, and wear it, to show that
support. Or spend money on gas and a concert ticket to go see them
live. And don't think you have to give them money, either. There are a
ridiculous amount of deserving charities in the world. The money that
reaches the artist after passing through the middle mans, that would be
enough to buy them, say a 6 pack of beer or two, would be enough to
buy, like a goat or cow for a starving village. Or, alternatively, a
lot of beer for yourself. But, hey, if you enjoy your cd collection,
I completely understand - they can be a lot more enjoyable than just
downloading. I guess it depends on your mindset.
TL;DR: Don't be so fucking lazy. Read it. |
