So, it's my first month at college (university if you're gay). The school gives out laptops to all students for personal and academic use. And they all run on the same network. So I get my computer, and after a few weeks of dicking around with Winamp, I decide to install iTunes.

I notice something I've never seen before. There's a "Shared" option on the right side menu. And it lists full libraries of students stupid enough to share them on the network. At first I thought "oh exploitable." I clicked on "Ricky's Library," just to check it out.

College students these days listen to the shittiest. Fucking. Music, ICP, Lil Wayne, Fall Out Boy, Avenged Sevenfold, Dashboard Confessional, T-Pain, Evanescence, Good Charlotte, Dragonforce, not to mention the entire Eminem discography. He doesn't discriminate: All shitty artists from all shitty genres are represented equally. And to fucking top it all off, they're all mistagged, missing information, missing genres, different capitalizations (avenged sevenfold vs. Avenged sevenfold vs. Avenged Sevenfold).

There's almost 6000 songs here. 26.14 GBs. 148 days. Of shitty music.

I then realized how lucky I am to have you, /mu/. You turn me on to music that doesn't suck. And you teach me how much everyone ELSE'S musical tastes suck. But, most of all, you give me the courage to be anal-retentive, picky, and have GOOD TASTE when it comes to music. Without you, my iPod might be full of track_01_lil_wayne_-_tha_carter_ii_-_tha_mobb.mp3s

tl;dr keep up the good elitism, /mu/

pic related, I could not make this shit up...

Rip them again, and do it right this time. Other than that no. Upconverting will actually give you worse quality due to how mp3s are encoded.

99% of rock is pop music. Repetitive, simple, rhythm based music is basically pop.

I remember this from freshman year. Sure, there were a ton of people who had the typical Top 40 stuff, but a few people had interesting libraries. I was always tempted to track some of the people down and hand them a flash drive and a list of albums I'd want from their library. Especially interesting were the people who had a complete overabundance of one artist, like every Grateful Dead bootleg ever, every Lil Wayne freestyle (some aren't bad, folks), and tons of other jam band stuff.
