  • Attention 4chan extension/user script/archive developers: Some time in the next few days, we'll be rolling out a complete HTML rewrite of the imageboards.
The design will remain the same, but the underlying HTML/CSS is completely new, and validates HTML5/CSS3 (with some tweaks to account for cross-browser compatibility).

Please visit this thread to read more about the changes, and here to preview the code.

As a regular user, these changes should not affect you. You will need to update your 4chan browser extensions/user scripts when their maintainer updates them to be compatible with the changes.
The official 4chan Chrome extension will be ready to go when the updates happen, and 4chan X should be ready soon. We'll post more details on the day of the migration!

    >> Anonymous 05/04/12(Fri)14:54 No.24655151
The Skrillex thing was fucking stupid, but otherwise it's a great list. Glenn Branca, Robert Fripp, and Steve Albini all broke into the top 30, and they had Andy Gill (from Gang of Four) at 12. Plus the combo of Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo for the top spot was a great choice.

They didn't stick with the safe blues-rock 'guitar god' bullshit that usually takes over these lists, so overall I'm happy with it. Besides fucking Skrillex.

Most of Skrillex's drops aren't that good, the only decent one that comes to mind is Equinox, and even then it's only the second drop that goes into the standard DnB beat.

I'll never understand how he got so popular, when similar brostep artists like Borgore make much better shitty party music.

Fripp's high on it, Malmsteen isn't on it. In fact there are no non-black/death metal guitarists on the list.
    >> Anonymous 05/04/12(Fri)14:57 No.24655219
The fact that Kurt Cobain is even in there at all, not even mentioning where he finally ranked, proves that the creators of this list haven't been within 10 feet of a guitar in their entire life. Being a good musician =/= being a good guitar player. By their logic we can have composers who died before the guitar was even invented on this list because of their great music writing qualities. Truly one of the most over-forced edgy lists I have ever seen.

    i wonder why...
i dont know much about guitarrists but i think Malmsteen is a good one, principally because of his Guitar and Orchestra Concerto

He's a good guitarist, as an actual player of guitar. This list is about the full package of writing, composing etc.

Malmsteen can play circles around anyone, but at the end of the day 90% of his songs are just finger exercises.
    >> Anonymous 05/04/12(Fri)15:01 No.24655299
    >>24655200
Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman of Slayer on it at 14.

tbh. There isn't a lot on this list that I disagree with and Kevin Shields at 2 is a great pick imo.

true, malmsteen cant escape the same commonplaces as most of the shred guitarrists like Satriani and Vai

That's completely accurate, Mayhem and Burzum almost singlehandedly created black metal as we know it today. As anyone from the Oslo scene will attest, no one called anything black metal before about 1990, and then Euronymous retroactively called all prior releases on the label "Black Metal."

All the surviving members, and part-timers like Varg all say that Mayhem was a Death Metal band in the 80's.
