I post as astral because I actually contribute to the community. I share/recommend albums and give advice when I can. Its always the anons that get butthurt over stupid things, tripfriends actually like music and have fun with it.

I wear a name on my posts for four reasons.

1. Because Anon Zealots get pissed when I do it. Totally worth it as is.
2. This name is also a stage name I used in my last band.
3. It gives me a sense of accountability for my posting, which essentially means I try to at least somewhat moderate the quality of my posts.
4. I just like being a namefag. Individuality is always nice.

They post with a name because they want to say they were a bigger part of the community than the rest of us. I've seen plenty of tripfags come and go, they are all the same.

The Idea is that you're more accountable for what you have to say, because you're name and personal credit are on the line.

But what it really amounts to is internet cool guy points, a lot of circlejerking and a creation of a self image which makes the individual feel accomplished and accepted in something.

Personally, I like to be held accountable for the things I post, and to be able to keep track of the things I make and relationships with other anons as well as tripfags. Basically, if I'm fagging up the board, I want to be called out on it, so I can change in whatever way. I meat anons every day I'd like to talk to in the future, and I like to facilitate a way for them to further contact me. Basically, I love /mu/ and 99% of its posters, even the most pleb, and I'd love to know them all.

It helps identify me, and helps separate other users.

If you frequent 4chan enough to be a 'known' tripfag, most likely you feel the need to have some sort of social recognition, even through such cheap and imitated means.
