That song is just asking for trouble. Everyone knows it and the melody is simple so most people just assume it's easy to play, the sheer technicality is going to fly over their heads. She really should've seen it coming.

So many people knock Creep as some kind of pop-throwaway by a band who went on to do much greater things, but it's actually a very technically stunning song that just learning to play is a triumph in itself.

Gonna get called out for racism, but whatever. Asians seem to think that technicality >>> all. Ever seen Asian pianists? Sure they can play some of the hardest pieces there are, but a lot (if not all) of them, seriously lack the ability to add emotion to their play.

Personally I think it's both genetic (maybe they genetically lack the genes for greater emotional expression) and environmental. Their parents don't allow their children to express themselves, watch any Asian do any sport/musical performance, there is 0 emotion on their face. Sometimes they can fake it, for example piano players, but you can tell from the music it's not genuine, lots of Caucasians do this too.

Actually I think, as players of music, black people are probably the most expressive. Ever seen some of those old blues players playing guitar? You can tell they're really fucking into it.

Thing I just thought about is lots of classical musicians are forced to play by their parents from an early age, so that could have something to do with it.

I have a similar story in reverse. This is also somewhat long.

    >start band with two friends
    >play drums, but not dedicated enough to be very advanced
    >one friend wants to play bass, never touched one
    >the other wants to play guitar and vocals, not very experienced with either
    >experimental mathcore/math rock is the aim
    >since we're technically limited the idea is to just write out rhythms for all songs and improvise the actual pitches for each performance
    >write out 20ish songs like this, lyrics and all
    >learn parts of a couple, other dudes have barely touched their instruments
    >guitarist wants to just do vocals now, finds a replacement
    >new guy is well known around school as being a great musician
    >they want to bring him in for practice, I tell them we're not ready
    >do it anyway
    >they don't know anything to play, I panic and forget the stuff I've learned
    >figure I can at least explain the concept to him, show him some notation
    >well, you've got the rhythm...
    >can tell he wasn't listening
    >he gets on bass and plays some amazing jazz stuff in the corner
    >never talk to him again, could tell he thought I was an idiot
    >"band" falls apart
    >start making solo music

It was such a bummer since I still think the idea has some merit and we might have actually been able to pull it off if we didn't rush it. Instead we just alienated the only skilled musician I knew at the time.

    tl;dr version

    >start experimental band
    >we suck
    >almost get new guy
    >he's too amazing and leaves
    >that feel

    >be in the highschool talent show cause im too shitty to be anywhere else
    >its the final day, we leave early but im still hungry so i tupperware my spaghetti & celery and backpack it
    >get there and set up, we're doing great
    >time for presenting comes, and we're up
    >so excited that i realize instead of drum sticks i packed celery
    >start fidgeting, i begin drum with celery
    >black people from the crowd" AHHAHA IS DAT NIGGA PLAYIN DRUMS WITH FUCKIN VEGETABLE???"
    >start sweating profusely, rummage through my backpack and fling out the hardest object
    >its the spaghetti, it flies through the air and opens mid-air, strewing day-old spaghetti through the crowd
    >by now my stomach is acting up and i begin to fart
    >singer drops the mic to help me, it lands at my ass
    >crowd is screaming, i'm literally performing a gas medley
    >announcer says the time is up
    >we win 3rd place

you should try and collaborate with him on your own. sounds like your band was holding you down. show him your solo music, maybe he'll be interested.

This was years ago, I don't even know where he went after graduation. Since then I have found some other people to jam with but it always ends with either them wanting something less "out there" and leaving or some sort of scheduling/location conflict comes up and makes it exceedingly difficult to continue.

It probably doesn't help that I'm in Alabama and too awkward to seek out the good people.
