I've stopped attempting to have intelligent conversations about music, unless I know the person has acceptable taste. If I'm talking to a girl at a party, I nearly always go in with the mindset that she doesn't listen to good music, but that she's attractive and possibly a nice person. If things do turn into a musical discussion, I'll generally let the other person name their bands first, and then act accordingly, as I'm not really into alienating people.

We have a CD library on campus (which I'm pretty sure is run by /mu/tants at least partially, but that's irrelevant here) so I know my friends music tastes pretty well. And I know I consider my tastes 'better', but because they're my friends, I don't say anything. Because I like them.
