hey /mlp/

Does anyone else think that this film was a fan pandering, cringy, ship wreck of a movie?

I wasn't expecting much from a My Little Pony movie but jesus merry titty fucking christ it hurt to watch.
>>
>fan pandering

haven't seen that word in a while, do you even remember what it means? of course, nobody here does

either way, it was a meh movie, nothing to get upset over, wish it was worse so we could have a sort of "bahahahahah, its so bad" movie for the fandom.
>>
Then you have autism.
The movie overall was _____ok______
>>
Yeah, it hurt too much for me to even really watch.

>you're not allowed to have an opinion if you haven't watched every single second
Holy lizard fuck am I sick of hearing that. Not just about this movie, but about things that seem shitty in general.
>>
>>12566186
it made me hurt inside, I guess I am alone in thinking I wouldn't even show this to children

>>
No, I and the other intelligent people on this board thought that it was an amusing side story that doesn't effect the main plot of the show and had characters and jokes that were faithful to the property.
>>
>>12566284
You don't think that including all the "fan favourite" characters such as viynl and all that is pandering?
>>
>>12566303

>>
>>12566319
but think to yourself, how is that a bad thing?

>>12566261
no, other people didn't like it, they are just the people who left because they can't dissearn what is and isn't canon
>>
>>12566238
Likewise.
>>
>>12566375
How is it a good thing?
>>
>>12566375
I don't care about what is or isn't canon, I just didn't enjoy the movie as the jokes were boring and it just made me cringe at times.
>>
>>12566238

You certainly can have an opinion without seeing all of it, but your opinion will still be less informed than people who have seen it all. I'm not saying there opinion is better automatically, just that I am more inclined to take seriously the opinion of the more well informed person.
>>
>>12566303

Stopped reading there.

It is, but it didn't change the plot or flow of the movie, so I've not a fuck to give about them.

Thats just it. It did nothing for the movie. They could of spent the time actually making the movie better.

I went for a walk after watching it. Saw this and snapped a picture. Summed up my mood and opinion of the movie at the time.

Looking back now, I'd say it wasnt quite as horrible as it made me feel when I watched it. I don't think it should have been done in the first place, but in all fairness they did an ok execution of a pretty shitty premise.
>>
>>12566494

Are you implying that animating background characters(that they needed to have anyway) took so much extra time to do that they spent noticeably less time on the movie itself?

I don't think you know how production works.
>>
>>12566533
>Are you implying that animating background characters(that they needed to have anyway) took so much extra time to do that they spent noticeably less time on the movie itself?

Not what I'm referring to. Tell me what did that vending machine scene accomplish and why did it have to be trixie.
>>
>>12566605

It established Twilight doesn't know how that world works. Any why Trixie? Because she's an established character, there is no reason not to use one.
>>
You know, there were a lot of things wrong with this movie. Most of them from dialogue and pacing, which just goes to show that Meghan is a terrible writer.

But... Despite the things wrong with it, I don't exactly hate it. I don't know why, but it has this kind of charm to it.

Unpopular vidya related opinion: I liked Fable 3. There were a lot of things wrong with it and it was a buggy mess, but it had a certain charm to it that kept me playing and play it I did, multiple times. Kind of similar situation here.

I am everything wrong with this fandom
>>
>>12566632
>It established Twilight doesn't know how that world works.

Like everything before that?
>>
>>12566639

No, you can recognize that while it wasn't a great movie it was still at it's core the same FiM that you like.
>>
>>12566666
I completely disagree with you however your pents say I must.
>>
>>12566284
I always rolled my eyes when people kept going on about "pandering" because it became such an overused buzzword deployed against anything popular with the fans.

However, that fucking Trixie cameo in EG... Definite. Fucking. Pandering. Plus, y'know, the story was paper-thin and cliche as hell, the characters were reduced to shallow flanderizations and it was all around shite.
>>
>>12566658

What would you have spent the time on then? What scenes would you want to see in the movie that weren't there?

>>
>>12566146 (OP)
How can a film be considered "pandering" when the mere mention of its existence sparked widespread backlash from the fandom? You can't just take everything you don't like about the series and automatically assume that it was meant to appease people who are "less" than you. The fact that you're trying to stroke your ego over your disappointment in a children's movie is pathetic.
>>
>>12566794

>You guys are a bunch of babies.

Welcome to 4chan.
>>
>>12566146 (OP)

It only had pandering in it because they knew the rest of the movie was mediocre and were trying to apologise. They aren't allowed to say anything against it at all, because Hasbro would fire them.

Say what you want about the writers, but they generally do a good job. The movie being as bad as it is meant that they clearly shared Lauren's feelings about the whole thing, but knew that if they protested Hasbro would just fire them and replace them with yesmen who would do everything they asked, not bothering to make the show good in the slightest.

So I forgive them for EqG, because even if it was shit, to me it looks like they are trying their hardest to keep the show good.

Meghan can write under instruction. She can write when she's working with other people on an episode, and she ends up writing the script alone.

EQG, Crystal Empire and Canterlot Wedding prove she cannot write on her own. She is the head writer, and she is the reason the show is going to shit.

She's got a bad case of Moffat Syndrome.
>>
>>12566805
I said I'm sick of people telling me I'm not allowed to declare something I find shitty to actually be shitty unless I subject myself to every irritating micro second of it.

I went in fully expecting a kids film, I was not worried about that.

What I got was something which I thought even kids wouldn't enjoy.

Also why did they have to include Trixie in the vending machine scene? It would have been better if they focused on humour instead of throwing whichever fan favourites they could into the mix.

That would make a more decent film.

A million times this. I'd rather we had to suffer this shitty movie if it means there's still a glimmer of hope for the future of the show.

Much as people rant at the current staff (especially Meghan), I'd take each and every one of them over the kind of people who'd happily tongue Hasbro's ass while they utterly destroy the show for merch opportunities. inb4 they've already done it - They really haven't.

Some kids might go "oh look it's that bad guy!" and Some kids will wonder what the fuck is they missed that episode for example.

We can't get away from any characters/news as they're plastered on the board each and every time something happens.

we're the only guaranteed audience members who'd properly get that. Some kids might but other won't, so yes, thats pandering. They wasted an opportunity for something funny, to include a character mostly likely aimed at us.
>>

>>12567114

Exactly. No one in the team is really allowed to say anything negative about the movie or the stuff Hasbro forces them to do. All they CAN do is make it as comfortable as they can for us.

A Canterlot Wedding is a great example of this. Not a single person thought that it would be good because of it's concept, but they made it work.

Magical Mystery Cure was the first part of a three-parter, so they haven't even had a chance to make Twilicorn better for us yet. Though her trying to fly + wingboners in the movie was pretty funny, so it went up a notch for me

EqG was just such a bad premise that they didn't even want to try to make it good, but they at least tried to make us happy. I doubt they will so much as reference the movie in the show, which is sorta-confirmed by Meghan by saying that Brad won't be in S4.

don't be retarded
they're all working for pony Professor Moriarty who has developed an unhealthy obsession with twilight after acknowledging her as the only pony in the world who could challenge hi intellect

That sounds pretty good to.
>>
What if Sunset Shimmer and Flash were both changelings working for Chrysalis after all?
>>
What if Lauren Fast was actually flying to the castle and Libman was working for Hasbro all along?

I just want a villain who's actually a criminal genius, like a REAL GENIUS not just some guy in a cloak or the queen of the changelings who comes up with a straightforwad evil scheme

I want twist after twist after twist and not the fucking pony!!

Like a villain who is a problem for a whole season.
The only scenes we get of him is him playing a chess game around the entire situation.

I really don't blame them. The team does not see the movie as canon, and neither do I. In fact, I see it like that Fiona & Cake episode of Adventure Time, where it was all Ice King's fanfiction. Discord wrote it, but is really bad at writing. That is my headcanon. At least we got a good song.

A wild Moriarty appears!

This won't likely happen because it makes syndication more difficult. Most shows take the episodic format so that they can air episodes in any order.

That reminds me of when I first heard about Discord. I thought that plot would be a series lonfg thing, and they'd have to go on a big adventure to get the Elements back. But I also thought he'd be a generic evil male alicorn villain, so I can't say I'm too sad about that.

the only villain who actually know how to plan was discord even though he overestimated his victory at the beginning he was the only villain who realized that he was in a show where friendship is a powerful thing and focused on attacking the mane 6 biggest strengths

too bad he was pussyfied I really wanted to see more of him as a bad guy

I like to think discord is just buying his time and waiting. He did say he would only be good most of the time.

I think that just means he won't try to take over the world. Meghan said herself that she wanted Discord to be simply "not a bad guy" so he could be in future episodes without having the need to stick him back in stone, but she also said that he wasn't a "good guy". I could see that super-hero episode being due to him.

Like Spike says "I wish I wasn't always a sidekick." Discord hears him, sends them into a world where the main 6 and him are super-heroes and he has to end up saving them. At the end he gives a little speech about being careful what you wish for, and then Discord turns Celestia bald. The end.

Is that really what happens?
