Pro:
1. Aggregate news style means that new stuff appears there almost as soon as it is produced
2. Emoticons function as reaction images for those of us who are too lazy to hunt for them.

Con:
1. They produce nothing original. Reddit is a creative black hole.
2. Karma system and hyperactive moderation have made an ironclad hugbox. Critical thinking is non-existent.
3. User base is packed with trannys, bi teenagers, cutters, suit-wearing furries, and other emotionally needy internet bottom-dwellers who go there to tell their life stories and get sympathy.

There non pony/off topic boards pros are basically just wide variety of people, if you enjoy "off topic round table discussion", but /chat/ has a few really bad autist, and there pony boards are well kinda shitty. There trying to fix /oat/ but I doubt they can without fucking some group over. On both /oat/ and /pony/ you have to put up with really autistic posters and mods etc, and if someone were to say attempt to argue with you, loose, then act like a asshat and go into damage control mode you would probably get banned for defending yourself. Mods love to protect the "innocent via there own new/autism" party there.
Some do, some are kinda cool, /chat/ is pretty lax on the mods except for when shining armor or bigmac show up, or rainbro
sweetie belle, aj, and flutshy are all pretty lax mods who will pretty much give you a lax ban at best.

Pros
In order to be a trip and not have some anons start shit with you for some reason you'll have to belong to a general/some some small group and have a reason for your trip. This prevents the tripfag majority of ponychan.
I would like to say a wide variety of various boards are here on /mlp/, not just /b/ and /co/
Cons
idiots sometimes gather in groups,
Arguing over old drama between latefags
and of coarse, my major complaint is the moderation situation. But oh well, just my pinion
