Thats when she opens her eyes. She doesn't look at me but softly says

I sit down cross legged and just cradle her in my arms.

She looks at me and her orange eyebrows tilt like shes hurt. She doesn't look angry, only hurt. Thinking about this now, the way she looked at me, I don't know what it was.

Without hesitation she pushes on my legs, lifts up and kisses me - for a short time. Holy shit. It was like a fucking fairytale. I put my hands lightly on her neck and kissed her back. (Always wanted to do that but girls don't seem to like it) It was strange, felt like kissing a girl yet Haven has a snout? The mind can't figure out how to create the sensation. What i remember most is how comfortable I felt, she was so placid and accepting. The weight of her on my legs, funny enough i didn't get a boner. And the taste, like you know those cream and strawberry sweets? Fucking awesome. Ask about this separately if you want more details.

I kissed my fucking dream guardian pony.
Afterwards she taps on my shoulder. She doesn't react much, aside from pushing her lips together and a weird befuddled grin. She jumps onto her hooves and rubs her eyes, then nonchalantly says

I laugh and stay sitting, then ask what now. I was thinking about asking for more but i didn't want to push my luck.

Last thing i remember is a clanging/static noise. I slip out of lucidity. I had a dream straight after this before waking up but it was unrelated, so fuck it.

I'm jealous that you're able to lucid dream. I'm also happy though, because every time I've tried it's been a nightmare.
I usually would become lucid in a dark house, going around locking all the doors and closing the windows. There would be some faint light outside and then I'd hear people walking in the house.
I stay calm until I hear a voice in my head. It's not mine. It's a deep male voice that tells me I can't hide from him.
I know I'm dreaming, but I ask him if I'm dreaming. He pauses for a while and says "Yes."
At this point I start waking up, it's like he has rules and is required to be honest with me.

Having a guardian like you do would be nice, but I start lucid dreaming always at the wrong time.

Shes remarkably sound for a dream character. Usually they're very sporadic and unpredictable. Acting one way then complete different in the next dream.

She didn't have a cutie mark when i first seen her, so when i was drawing her i just made a crappy one that represented sleeping.

Someone in the thread suggested a dream catcher cutie mark, since thats what she does. Separates nightmares from dreams. I thought it was amazing and drew a design.

This is getting weird. Now I wonder what caused you to write that Haven needed help. Maybe it was the art in the last thread or something.

This is making me want to really get back into LD's even though I have a rough history with them. I tried for a while, but only got 2 that lasted a few seconds each, and I am not enough of a morning person to keep a handwritten journal.

I may have had a trade for that, though, since I sleep really lightly and dreams are rare. Even my LD's were both fuzzy, full of static, and in black and white. Any color is general, and very fuzzy, like a flood light on a wall.

I'll keep trying, though. There are so many things I want to experience, and dreams are perfect for. But I might try to be ultra observant all the time such that I can't ever let go of reality enough for a proper dream.

Any of the above, really. Dreams are an infrequent enough conversation piece. At least on my end, anyway. Like one time I had a dream I was in my college cafeteria, eating a sandwich. It was empty of any other persons except pinkie, who was sitting there at another table. She looked really sad, laying her head and forehooves on the table dejectedly. I do nothing and continue to eat sandwich. Soon, figure walks in and starts talking to pink horse. Can't make out what they're saying, but figure seems to cheer her up as she smiles at him (his back was towards me when he reached her table, which was the time I actually bothered to look at him).

Wake up, get coffee. Brother says he had a weird dream. He was in his high school cafeteria. Saw it was empty except for pinkie. He proceeds to cheer her up. She says something like thanks for being a friend and then his dream ends.

As I noisily sipped the coffee, I did not tell my bro about this phenomenon because I was too busy wtf-ing at the time. It was, and still is, weird.

I feel like Haven is talking about dreams as they're a sort of 'physical' world, at least for her anyways. Like our combined subconscious as a race has dreamed up a world with beings such as Haven in it, and when we dream, we enter their world for a small period of time. We're just sort of visiters.

I may be just rumbling, but what do you think OP?

Also, upon reading the earlier Haven threads in that picture, did you get what she meant by Dream Screamers? She was pretty much making a joke. Silent beings, screamers.

I'm familiar with that happening, OP. I can remember one in particular when I had friends visiting from out of town, crashing on my couch in a small studio apartment. In the dream I was in bed, paralyzed, as the figure approached, armed. And no matter how hard I tried to scream, there was silence, right up until he went to cut me.

I awoke sitting straight up in bed, immediately felt exhaustion wash over me, and fell back. My friends on the couch came over and shook me; told me I'd let loose the most blood-curdling roar they'd ever heard. I mumbled I was fine.

I don't think it's a "common world" insofar as it is a combined subconsious. I think the common pieces for these dreamstates exist in each of our brains, and so all too often we have similar experiences in them.

To the people who can lucid dream - how long of dream journal writing and reality checks did it take for you to gain your first lucid dream?

Took me under a week. For some they lucid dream that night, for others it takes months. Its completely random it seems. Keep in mind that writing down your dreams helps draem recall only - remembering dreams. Doesn't have much to do with having one, but if your memory is bad enough you may have one in the night and wake up not remembering.

I think your willingness to let go of reality and be open minded is important. To change Morpheus words a bit "Don't think you can, know you can".

Within the first week i was doing reality checks about once every 5 minutes in real life, so like over 100 a day. It was fucking crazy but i was desperate to have one.

Now im lucky if i remember to do 10, though since i've been dreaming about Haven its motivated me more.

I have strange problem with being sentient in a dream.
Without reality checks i recognizr that i'm in a dream. But everytime i think: i fucking love dreaming and the random way it appears so i should forget that i know this is a dream for letting it happen by itself.

I'm able to enter lucidity rather easily, but I can't really do much, and they almost always turn into nightmares. And most of the time the nightmares are demonic creatures just screaming, and then I wake up, and my heart is pounding. They also tend to take place in locations I'm familiar with.

I doubt that. OP's life took some serious blows recently. If anything Haven is exhausted/hurt because so is OP and she reflects that or she has been hard at work keeping his dreams peaceful. Haven was doing fine before that even when dealing with the odd nightmare, especially back when she first showed up in his dreams.

Whenever I realize I am dreaming, I suddenly become worried that I will fuck up and think about something scary.
Next thing I know I'm paralyzed and I hear a bunch of static before waking up. Kind of like Slenderman, without the face popping up. Or If that doesn't happen I just suddenly feel stressed and slide back into unconsciousness.
And tips on how to remain calm so I don't immediately wake up?
I've tried rubbing my hands, spinning and smelling things, but that still doesn't stop me from getting the static shit.

I had a fuckton of problems with this same issue. If you get into the habit of not preoccupying yourself immediately after becoming lucid, you usually start to worry that it'll turn into a nightmare.

For example i'd be staring at someone and they'd suddenly turn and start attacking me the instant i thought about it. My worst experience is when im staring at a person and they start to open their mouth, and it just keeps getting wider and wider covering their whole face.

Anyone got ideas why Haven isn't like that? Multiple times ive just stared at her waiting for her to start screaming or her face to change or some shit, but she never does. The most shes done is stared intently at me. Shes still part of the dream, shouldn't she be vulnerable to my insecurities changing her?

I just woke from a lucid dream hour and a half (Roughly) ago, and I generally have night terrors with them (even while lucid dreaming.) They make no sound, and always wake me (Even from evening naps.)

About 5 minutes (estimate) into the dream I was in a room with no light. It was difficult to make out anything. But I could feel the night terrors there, slowly coming closer. It was like being squeezed by multiple walls in a circle. The pressure stopped very suddenly, and almost knocked me from the lucid dream (Which was odd, as in my short experiences have never been knocked from one.) A voice came after, and it was a soft, quite feminine voice.

The dream promptly ended. I couldn't fall back asleep after writing in my dream journal, so I went to walk around to find the front door of my apartment to find it unlocked.

I find this thread, and the ones before it a few minutes later.

You can feel anything if you are aware of it on some level. If you're concentrating so much on one aspect (Like vision or touch) then you'll forget about the others. They're still there, you just don't remember them. Its unlike real life where you can think back to a situation and remember other senses without realising.

Lucid dreaming is a unique hobby because its the only thing you can do consciously while sleeping.

If you integrate that into your sleeping routine then it becomes less of a chore waking up to write down your dreams and shit.

Haven can appear in anyone's dreams. Knowing what she looks like and what her personality is like is the way she gains entry. But since dreams are created mostly from things in our own minds she's going to act differently for each of us that meet her.
I saw her once, and then it was only from a distance. The dreamscape was just like rolling hills with short wild grass everywhere. All Haven did was stand there, shook her head and disappeared over the top of the hill she was stood on. Had a voice in my head say something about 'you do not need me'.

On a side note, I have mentioned in a previous thread that if a story was made about Haven, then it could be based on nightmares manifesting/breaking through in to real life, and Haven coming over with them as a sort of Heroine. If anyone wants to expand on this idea, feel free.

Like I said, someone else mentioned it, I haven't seen her. Did have a closer look through the rarity comic, and saw Mando Pony, Wildfire, and even Doctor Whooves playing with a sonic screwdriver in the middle of the fight against the nightmares. I'll go take a closer look at the rest of the strip and report back if I find anything.

Had a close look through the Nightmare Rarity strip, but haven't seen Haven anywhere. Maybe she's in another strip? I know several references are made throughout the official comics related to internet banter (for lack of a better word), and it's more than obvious the writers have been on here. Surprised I haven't seen Milky Way (without the assets), or Tracy in the comics yet. Or are they there and I've just not seen them yet?

I know i'm just being a huge faggot here, but using a scythe as a weapon is extremely impractical. It has a limited range and would be just too awkward to use properly.
Still, i know about the symbolical meaning it carries and that it just looks really cool.
And just to affirm my autism even further, the pic shows a practical design for a weapon used as a scythe. It still looks really cool.

A few things i noticed. The normal eye looks strange, not sure why. And the shadow leg doesn't look connected to the body because of the contrast in colour.

The iris of the normal eye is asymmetric even though Haven is looking straight at the viewer with a smaller than usual pupil. In most pictures of Haven made by OP her iris is very thin with a large pupil, usually with the iris only being visible on the side facing away from her nose. Perspective helps with it as well.

Second time ever drawing armor on something, holy fuck this is hard.

I don't know how some pieces wrap around the body.
I've heard that you should keep the design simple. So if you're drawing plate you keep it to 3-4 whole pieces on the body, and then you can split it up into more so it wraps on the body properly.

Update time. I haven't put any tone/shading onto it yet so it looks a little basic, still trying to decide if the colours work. Im largely following the same colour scheme as deaths armor from Darksiders 2 since this is entirely what its based off of.

What colour should i make the scythe? Anything look a bit shit that i should fix?

"When you know someone mind and body, thoughts and hopes, dreams, and nightmares, you can judge them as accurately as any. I n these short moments that I've guarded you, shielded you from horrors, and felt your touch and your compassion, I have known you better than you know yourself. I have judged you, and I have found myself looking forward to the next visit." She lowered her head to his ear and whispered with a silky voice. "The next taste. The next touch." She raised back up to her full height, her violet eyes staring into his own. "Come on, squishy; let's make a wet dream you'll never forget."

It was happening. The dreamer didn't want to hurt her. It was true, she had stood by as a reliable friend in the sometimes very distressing affairs of dreams, but was this really something that he could go with? She was a horse, an adorably soft, friendly, and loving little thing, but still...

He embraced her and they kissed. She had never shown anything romantic and it was fantastic. As his tongue played with hers, as they rolled there in bliss, Haven was suddenly slammed aside by another form. Black, winding, twisting, this creature grabbed at the dream guardian, holding her aloft as she cried out in pain, reaching a hoof out in a desperate plea. "Squishy, I'm sorry! Run!"

Be careful about sexing up your brain horse guardian, OP unless she just did a security sweep first.

Oh, and a small point just occurred to me. Think of where the joints are on the legs. Front legs have a elbow joint, (as you said, it's reversed from ours on the ponies and so works like our knees), and there's another joint (wrist) where the hoof meets the leg. So if you wanted you could use that to give the hook-round effect you need to have her holding the shaft of the scythe.

It was wrong, all wrong. She could fight the nightmares! Nothing ever stopped Haven! Hurtling death comets, a thousand hands grabbing at you, all of them were just blown away!

But as the dreamer scrambled to his feet, the little guardian screamed, flailing as black claws slashed at her, drawing deep red liquids.
"Run!" She cried, sinking deeper into the creature as it tore at her mane, face, and legs.

He was paralyzed, unable to move his legs, something was keeping him there, rooted in place as his former protector was taken in by the monstrosity up to her hips. She struggled but the claws tore and grasped, pulling and ripping bloody gouges into her soft coat. She could find no purchase and she began to panic. "I'm so sorry I'm so sorry Squishy!"

His vision blurred, colors seemed to warp and fade around the creature. He quickly realized that she was trying to do something, anything to banish the nightmare. And just as quickly the dreamer realized something else. It wasn't working.

He tore his eyes away for an instant. When he opened them he saw something on the ground besides him. In a burst of terror-driven effort he grabbed it.

"S-squishy?!" Haven cried out as she saw him brandish a scythe, handling it firmly, checking its weight and getting a feel for it. But there wasn't time. She was up to her snout in the inky darkness that was the nightmare's body. "No! No no no! You have to run!" She called, waving a hoof as he surged forward, towards her, towards the nightmare. Towards that which he could never stand against. "Please run!"

In the moment the creature completely covered her over she called out for him one last time. "Squishy!"

In that same instant the scythe raised to the heavens. It swung down, reaping a hole through the creature. In the ensuing gap, there was the little guardian, Haven, wounded eyes wide in shock as the creature disintegrated around her into a cloud of smoke. She was only dimly aware that she was falling to the ground.

When she cracked open an eye again she looked up into the face of the dreamer. He cradled her in his arms as blood trickled from her wounds. "I'm so sorry." He said, not daring to squeeze her for risk of making her condition even worse. "I've seen you fight nightmares all the time. I, I knew I could fight them too, like you, but I was scared, I was so scared." He started to tighten his grip for a hug but caught himself.

She sluggishly reached out a hoof, touching it to his cheek. Blood smeared across in its wake but neither of them paid it any attention. "It's okay... I was scared, too." She coughed up blood weakly.

"It's okay, it's all a dream!" His voice cracked. "I, I can make you better. I have control, I-" He was stopped by a hoof pressed to his lips with barely the pressure of a butterfly. He stopped all the same, falling silent. She shook her head. "Be good for me. Please."

"I, I will, Haven."

She whispered one final thing. "Goodbye, Squishy." The little guardian closed her eyes.

"Haven? Haven! Don't go, Haven!" But it was too late. He silently held her for a few moments, looking away only when he remembered the scythe, still on the ground where he dropped it.

He woke up that morning. Even though he didn't want to, he still woke up. Hands covering his face, he lay there in defeat. "Haven. I'm so sorry."

It was back. That unmistakeable form, that malevolence. The nightmare that slaughtered his little guardian. Fighting it wasn't working. He couldn't escape it, the creature knew wherever he might go. The dreamer didn't know why. It never talked, only moved.

He ran down a dark hallway and dove through a door. It would only be a matter of time before it found him yet again. Panting, tired, sluggish, he moved deeper into the room, panic driving him to look for a place, any place that might serve as an extra hiding spot. A closet, a table, anything! All he found was a tall bed. Childish, but it'll have to work. The dreamer pulled the sheets down about the mattress, desperately trying to find some kind of solace in his night terrors. They covered the surroundings and he took cover underneath the bed itself, seeking shelter in the shade no matter how fruitless it was.

It wasn't long before there was the sound of scuffling outside. The sheets pinched together in one spot as thought something was grabbing it. He felt his heart pounding. This was it, the end!

The draping sheets drew out of the way to reveal a familiar face.

"Whutcha doing under there, squishy?" It was none other than the softly smiling, and as tired as ever, Haven. "Looks uncomfortable."

On top of that, Because of which, I haven't even been sleeping much period. I usually stay up all night, and all day. Every once and a while I take a good long nap for about 6-9 hours, and I think I see something, but it more or less just looks like a white dot, about the size of a period, in a huge black space.

I remember having a...I guess you could call it 'lucid' dream. For some reason I was sleeping on my side and I could feel my heart beating. Then I started imagining it going faster and faster until like the point where your adrenaline is rushing and you wake up. Weirdest dream experience ever.

The first of these threads I saw was the July 3 one, so I'm pretty late to the party, but man this is some heavy stuff. After reading each story I have to go lay down and think for a while. My dreams are barely memorable, I've never heard of anything like this before. It's really amazing.
