Hurtful indeed. This issue clearly had us in the crosshairs from the get go. It's really the first time we've seen Ponyville from a masculine perspective, and they laid it on thick. Doubly hard hitting is the "Can you read my mind?" banner, because we can't and they all wish we could. Or assume we can.

btw, I doubt you hear it often enough, but you're doing god's work in these threads.

Giant Robots fighting Giant Monsters. It's a "humanity fuck yeah" story at it's very core and that is always great. Not to mention it was a Hollywood block buster based off of an entirely new IP. That in and of itself is amazing.

I was thinking more about how Dash sacrificed herself at the end.
Normally I would count that as a point for her, but it occurred to me that it only happened because the comic was tryhardy and edgy.

So to compliment her on it would be rewarding that behavior in writers.
As such I have ditched the whole "good deeds = best pony" bs and moved instead to characterization, development and episode/comic quality as a proxy for determining the most engaging character as best pony

There's not really a "they" here, no grand conspiracy, IDW just picked a writer that really wasn't up to the task, it could have happened for any of the micros. (except maybe Rarity, I suspect that was a high-priority, due to Rarity's neglect in S3)
