I'm thinking of going next year, but that's putting down $200 at least and potentially trusting people I barely know to room with. Curious if it's even worth all this bullshit to go to the con.

I live in PA, and I went with a three friends, one of whom had enough money to book a room last fall. I ended up spending $100 on merch and food, and I owe $100 to pay back for hotel costs. If you find a similar situation, and stay around $200 I would recommend it. You have to remember that a lot of the con attendees had to spend way more on airplane tickets, in addition to those international visitors who spent over 1k to get to the States. Unless you're wealthy, I don't think 1k for Bronycon would be worth it. Also, going by yourself isn't something I'd recommend for financial reasons.

Most prints I saw were 10$ apiece or 3/20$ not too bad imho. The handpainted 300$ oil pastel paintings were excessive, but that was one panel. Also plushies are 100$+ across the board. With the upper end in the $700-$1,500 range (Jeez white dove) and the lower end looking like shit for 20$.

The highlight of the event was figuring out how much R34 artists edited their work to make it safe to sell at the con.

But letting it become my life? It just mezermises me that a High School Graduate would spend 30% of their paycheck on MLP merch when they could use it to advance themselves, get more dosh, and they get more mlp merch much later down the line. I was told to fill out security report paperwork and they asked for my full legal name.
Then they asked to see my ID.
I wasnt carrying my ID on me intentionally, and they cant have anyone in the convention that cannot prove that they are supposed to be there. So it was either walk out with the police to go prove my identity, get escorted back to my hotel room, and fill out a whole bunch more paperwork, or give up the badge and walk out on my own.

I took the latter.

He's not saying the police threatened him for not having ID. It's in the convention rules you need ID to pick up your badge and wear it. Even PurpleTinker got turned away for thinking she was above the rules and not having ID.

Its to keep people from sharing/stealing badges. And while the police had no issue with him, the security people had a legitimate rule violation so they used it. If he made the police radio in his information they'd have to do their own paperwork which isn't worth the effort on any party.

We had some big plans at first, but it all changed once we all got together and started legitimately having fun. We decided it was best to use the spaghetti for harmless pranks instead of pasta-based terrorism, and that the best way to proceed was to whip the party into shape /mlp/ style instead of the edgy anonymoose is leegun bit. Everyone thought we failed our mission because no meatball marinara bombs went off, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Pretty much everyone we spoke to (including MA Larson and some con personell) enjoyed our antics as we ran about breaking almost every rule they had. We had a cuntload of fun, and it seems everyone else did too. If that isn't success I don't know what is.

>Staff leaves and comes back a little later with some news. Vendors won't be let in early until 7:30
>Everyone gets a little upset since they were told vendors would be let in at 7AM
>Staff leaves and comes back 10 min later
>They now say vendors won't be let in until 8:30
>Tinker starts trying to literally break the door down and starts yelling and shouting about how the Bronycon staff just wants to screw all the vendors
>Staff is forced to take everyone around back through the loading docks to keep Tinker from breaking the door
>Once inside the vendor hall Tinker loudly sings about how Bronycon staff hates it's vendors
