From the sounds of it it should be fairly trivial to crack once the key is released. If anyone wants to upload the movie they just have to take a copy of the key file which is sent to them, rip the contents of the DVD, then decrypt it, pack it into a usable format, and seed it. I'm sure tools for doing just that exist already.

Except that's not how movies are distributed. They send them out on hard drives (basically a box with an ethernet or other data port in it) or they download them. In the old days of film that might be a DTS soundtrack but they wouldn't do a fancy print on the disc, they look like this.

ScreenVision works with at least 700 theaters that can do their own DCP on site.

They can receive the master on a BluRay, which is used just once in a replication bay to load as many HDDs as they need. The BluRay itself is NOT used for the actual screening, because optical medium is not reliable enough.

These master disc will NOT be the same as the retail BluRay. Nor would this BluRay work in any BluRay player. It is essetially just a data disc containing a bunch of MXF files. Which usually only contain 2K or 4K datastreams.

But us getting the movie leaked because some retard working at a theater happens to borrow it overnight and rip it's contents is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

1.) It is a BDXL disc. Your BluRay drive in your average PC isn't even going to be able to read it.

2.) Even if you could read it, it's not a standard BluRay file format. It contains MXF files for theaters to replicate to their own DCP hard drives for screening.

3.) It is encrypted in 128-bit AES.
