I always felt Derpy was akin to Timmy and Jimmy from South Park.

Timmy and Jimmy were Handicapped, but the Trey and Matt presented them as just normal every day kids. They arent made fun of for their handicapped. They are presented in positive light all the time, and didnt care if anybody made fun of them.

The problem with doing this to Derpy goes back to this whole Politically Correct BS Mentality that started emerging from the 80s, where we had to all be friends and all be equal and those with handicaps were labeled special. Not only that, they were sequestered to the side so the "normal" people didnt have to look or function with them. But the truth of the matter is many of those Handicapped kids are intelligent people, who are just mired by a physical challenge or a somtimes mental one.

What is cool about MLP was that its message is Love AND TOLERANCE. Derpy, Handicapped or Not, Was Welcomly accepted by the fanbase. We cheered when this character, akin to Disney's Goofy, had her moment in the sun.

You can buy "The Friendship Express" DVD for $10. It has the episode in its original, unaltered state. It was sent to DVD pressing before the "controversy" came up.

Personally, I don't see the fuss, on either side. I don't think it was offensive, so I think people who thought it was insulting are overly sensitive. I don't think the controversy was all that significant, so I think Hasbro overreacted in changing it. And I think fans who are getting all worked up over the whole thing, including "killing" Derpy, are also overreacting. She'll always be Derpy to me, whether its canon or not, and I'll always hear the original voice when I think of her.

What I'd like to see is sombody make a webseries staring Derpy. A Flash Cartoon putting her in situations, with the spirit of the original derpy scene in it. And show Derpy in a more possitive light.

Something that I stumbled upon when researching for a paper for a writing class I'm in:

It's a rather dull read, being a scholarly article, but it talks about something called the "Third person effect." The idea is that people try to regulate or monitor media based off the assumption that others are more affected by harmful effects then themselves. This means that people might try to censor or remove content that they might not find offensive off the assumption that someone else does and that they're sticking up for this person. So it's entirely possible that no one thought this scene was offensive, but believed that others would and took it down in the idea that they were protecting people.

So even though there might have not really of been a controversy over this issue at all, people still might have complained anyway believing that they are acting in the best interest of everyone else.

However, what is done is done. No amount of complaining or petitioning is going to change Hasbro's minds, especially since they likely thought that more people were offended then the amount of people that actually called in and complained. Derpy is not dead, and acting like she is will just cause problems.

TL:DR Hasbro might not have had a great reason for editing the scene, but complaining isn't going to make them change it back, and she's definitely not going anywhere. Just accept that this is the way things are and there is nothing you can do about it and move on.

First off, most people aren't mad because Derpy is no longer canon, most people are mad because of "why" she isn't canon. Responding to complaints via email and online posts is one thing but completely editing a scene out of a show sends the wrong message. Basically there was this one episode that had some lesbian subtext fanservice between Bubblegum and Marceline (going to run with you being familiar with the show for simplicity's sake).

One of the animators put up some videos or art or some shit involving the creation of the ship, and she contacted CN about it. I believe she was asking for them to do more of this, but when CN caught a hold of the lesbian fanservice that some animator was doing, they weren't happy. They didn't know anything about it, and now that they knew, they fired the animator.

I'm not entirely sure, mostly because I'm tired and my memory from that far back are skewed enough to remember only the end result. All I really know is that her actions caused an animator to be fired, and presumably led to CN holding a tighter grip on the AT staffs' balls, meaning we'll probably see a lot less interaction between Marceline and Bubblegum.

To anyone that believes that the crusade against Yamino, Derpy or no Derpy, is not justified.

What I'm hoping for is that the "slight audio changes" they speak of are not going to be the same changes made for iTunes. Now, i can't say I agree with how far the scene was changed. I do think the original voice might've been a little too "caricature" as some people have put it. I had no issue with the wall-eyed expression, and idgaf about her name. But I did like that in the changed scene, she was treated a little more fairly by dash regarding Derpy's disability. Keep in mind that Dash also has been noted to take it easy on Fluttershy due to her sensitivity, so it'd make sense for Dash to not be a total bitch to someone who was mentally disabled.

I think Hasbro should have gone with an inbetween; Sure, Derpy fucks shit up sometimes, is wall-eyed and such, but she tries her best and she shouldn't be treated with disdain, as Dash did in the original version of the clip. Kids would see someone who might've been mentally handicapped and taken the cue from dash to be angry at Derpy, and real world people like Derpy. I at least like that in the change, kids would take the cue to be patient with those who are a little slower.
