I spent the day sorting through and re-reading a few thousand e-mails from 2010, and it was really a blast from the past. What a year it was.
Thanks for an awesome 9 years, and for some great e-mails along the way.

As always, I read all of my e-mail and can be reached with questions/comments/concerns/hate mail/and plain ol' hellos at moot@4chan.org (or on AIM at MOOTCHAT).
tl;dr version of 2010: "SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, and VIRUSES: The Movie"

/m/, if you were to explain Kamen Rider to a total newbie who was interested, how would you?
>>
I'd make him sit down and watch an episode.
>>
I wouldn't. I mean I wouldn't explain it because it doesn't need an explanation, and an explanation using words just simply wouldn't do it justice. I've gotten a few people into it, but that's just because I told them to shut the fuck up and watch it and stop asking me why i watch it.

Cont: Also, I know we have like a hundred of these a day, what would you recommend to start?
>>

Kabuto
W
Kuuga
Fourze
OOO

It really depends how they are and what they like. You gotta be careful here because if you show lets say Kuuga to a guy who hates cop dramas, the chances of him finishing it and moving on are slim. Pick a show with a style that suits the person really. If they like high school anime bullshit throw Fourze at them and so on.

I would normally say Kabuto but I've failed when I tried to use it as an entry into the series for someone on numerous occasions.
>>
>>8796049
Wizard. Introducing newfags to KR is the only thing it's good for. Kuuga hasn't aged too well, W is okay too but starting with W would be like starting with the main course.
>>
>>8796044 (OP)
It's like power rangers, but with just one guy. And you have to hate the shows that are made in the show era.

Goddamn this is one persistent agent of Shocker.
>>
how many people are into this? Whenever i see a toku thread I just imagine like 4 or 5 neckbears posting and acting like different people in order to populate threads and try to gather more fans.
>>
>>8796062
Like five thousand or something.
>>
>>8796062
Nyaa says Over-Time's most recent weekly releases, Kyoryuger 1 and Wizard 23, got about 10 thousand downloads each between their various versions. There's also people who got them by DDL or xdcc, people who go for TV-Nihon, et cetera. Obviously not all of them are on /m/, but there's a fair number. Look at the way the Kyoryuger threads, being for a new show, were the fastest moving threads on the board when the ep came out.
>>
>>8796062
I'd suspect its about 20 or so people on /m/ just by speed of posting. The number is definitely low because these shows are just bad
>>
Men in spandex thinking they are insects or something
>>
Bump
>>
What does /m/'s toku fans think about the HenshinJustice community?
>>
It's an action show with no convoluted bullshit about a hero fighting for justice with decent special effect that plays every SINGLE week (except on very rare occasion).

P.S. Every single week part is pretty important to me, don't know about anyone else.

P.S.S. I honestly don't have any other show that runs every week that keeps me entertained as much as KR.

I compare it to something that they know so that they have context.
Most likely the thing I'll compare it to is Power Rangers since most people I know have seen it when they were younger.
The I point out the differences.

More power, less giant robots, no five man teams, usually just have a side partner sort of guy etc.
>>
>>8796062
A lot. To be fair, there are a shitload of Engish speakers and they are pretty varied.
>>
Various flavors of mostly insect themed superheroes.
>>
>>8796051
what about Agito? People keep saying that's the best.
>>
It's a super hero show who... [describe premise of the series you think they might be interested]
>>
it's power ranger with leather instead of tights, one guy instead of five and bikes instead of giant robot

BUG MEN IN SPANDEX/ARMOR BEAT UP MONSTERS AND HELP PEOPLE. ALSO, JUSTICE.

That's pretty much Rider in a nutshell.
>>
>>8796949
Agito is usually better after watching Kuuga.
>>
>>8796044 (OP)

Showa Era: guy is turned into insect-themed cyborg, fights evil organization's monsters, jump kicks enemies into gloriously hot-blooded explosions fueled by raw manliness.

Heisei Era: pretty much the same, only the insect theme is less pronounced, the hero is rarely a cyborg, and there are far more pretty boys than manly men. However, when there ARE manly men, they're really fuckin' manly.
>>
"Silly super hero stuff that's good for a laugh."
>>
"It's kinda like Japan's take on Superman in a way. Instead of a superpowered alien, he's a kung-fu cyborg insect."
>>
JUSTICE!

That's the only thing you have to say to describe it.
>>
It's about a man who turns into a cyborg and kicks monsters in the face so hard that they explode.
>>
>>8797363
Please tell me you have this or have found it somewhere.

Also, the giant Rider is wearing Kamen Rider Beast's belt, appropriately.

"Well, you see Kamen Rider is essentially a bunch of chose Japanese people who dress up in ridiculous costumes from mysterious powers, that somehow make them stronger and they fight monsters, while riding motorcycles."

>his reaction

"Dude, you'll never be accepted by the Japanese. you'll always be an outsider, try to find some other cultures out there, instead of thinking Japan being the best."

All i did was explain Tokusatsu shit.. okay..
>>
>>8798668
How do these people are even your friends
>>
>>8798260
you'd need examples for the manly men, i've explained heisei rider like this to some people, and they've always asked about which ones have the manly men.
>Date, Gaoh, KaGAAAAAmi, Kusaka, etc
>>
>>8798623
I'm pretty sure I've found it. If I remember correctly it's the sequel to the movie that was in Germany as Krieg Der Infras.
there was a copy on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5LOS_9ExaI&gl=IL&hl=en but it is no more.

Pretty sure this is the one with the girl rider
>>
>>8798672
>>8798672

Well, he isn't technically a "friend". since we tend to be in arguments.(mostly with Japan.)

I mean, it's endless excuses to hold his own identity or attempts at using guilt towards me in thinking that i won't ever be accepted in Japan. (literally the same argument.)
>>
>>8798683
It's been terminated due to copyright infringement. Don't tell me some German group still owns the copyrights to this.

no clue who pulled it or when. But it's at least a start on scrounging it. I _may_ have downloaded it or some of it, but I'm not sure.

It's Japanese Batman, what more can you say?

Or just go "It's Power Rangers except with only one or two dudes, and instead of using a giant robot they just beat the hell out of everything using all their upgrades, powers, and justice."

Except for Amazon, he beats them with the power of friendship, razor sharp claws, and his wild spirit.
>>
>>8796044 (OP)
>explain Kamen Rider
It's a super hero tv show that changes the main character and powers yearly. It's primarily aimed at kids and teens but its been running long enough that adults watch it too.
>>
>>8798733
Sometimes if it's fitting, I use Ironman just so I can compare stuff like the cross over movies the equivalent to the Avengers. But yeah, Batman works real well.

Just explaining that they're basically Japan's version of comic book heroes, all from the same universe like Marvel/DC (though that's not exactly always the case), really helps people understand.
>>
>>8796044 (OP)
I would say it's not /m/ and belongs in /jp/

Also it's a cheap production super hero show for 5 year old boys to sell toys

Adam West Batman meets Nolan Batman, except it's in Japanese.
>>
>>8798820
are you kidding me? its a pretty good step in television production, a super hero show with a ton of horror elements jammed into it.
>>
Today we're meeting with the famous Kamen Rider 1. Welcome to the program. Now it's true that Japan is full of heroes who fight for justice right?

That is true! We all fight for the sake of others and are friends of justice!

Then I know this is going to be a difficult question... But what about pearl harbor?

Shocker.

What?

Shocker did it.

W-What could possibly make you think shocker did it?

Look I know I wasn't there at the time, but it was definitely shocker.
>>
>>8798930
This is being posted with the pic in OP, on my Facebook.
>>
>>8798930
How could there be any doubt?

Anyway I'd just let them watch The First.
Shit as it is, it very much encompasses the essence of Rider. You get the half-resolved plots going nowhere, the Shocker goons turning into bubbles (throw in The Next for even more encompassing, Amazon-esque gore), antiheroes, impossibly good protag, weird twisted sciencey bits, MotW level dudes, bike fight, a taxi driver, broken water container because superstrength, spider is first, team up, terrible drama, and more. All in one compact running time.

Clearly, Kotaro has a very refined Golgom-sense that tingles whenever those jerks are up to some bullshit.
