I already didn't like the E because of the shift in the ship design look more oval looking rather than TNGs overall round shape, now they're just making it look sharp and stretchy.

That picture gave me the single greatest idea for how the ST8 battle happened in a mini series.

Since its a cube, the factions of the alpha quadrant see it coming a mile away. Much of its journey is spent being probed by alpha quadrant factions and maybe even attacked a little, but nothing serious, everyone knows its headed for earth and can't spare the forces to deal with it because of the dominion war, ect. None of this happens on screen but maybe in flashbacks or expose.

The federation put together a huge fleet and warp in around it. The formation is completely spherical or an attempt at it as close as the cube will allow. Many defiant class ships lead the first part of the assault, their pulse phasers being the most effective weapon against borg shields.
    >> Anonymous 04/24/12(Tue)11:59 No.7693009
    >>7693007
The cube is eventually forced to drop out of warp outside of the Sol system in order to keep its shields up. The battle drags on as waves of Federation ships are destroyed one after another. Most of the cruisers have been holding back for a special plan. They manage to force the cube near Mars through fleet reinforcement/repairs from Utopia Planitia and bad ass posturing of the fleet. The Borg also kind of go with it because destroying the fleet yards would be a huge blow to the federation. The Thunder Child is one of the main character ships/crew, they have a primary mission of preventing the borg from assimilating anyone who knows the plan, they even lead the task force in charge of it. This involves daring rescue missions while attacking the cube. Essentially, the ships huge shuttle bays are used to house the escapee's. But it goes further than this, many of these people are cycled through kamikaze beam ins in order to prevent key starfleet personel from being assimilated. At one point, the Thunderchilds transporters are knocked out, and it has to destroy a group of escape pods with its own weapons.

Over Mars, the cruisers begin closing in on the cube, and the plan is revealed to the whole fleet. A mass activation of tractor beams will be used to force the cube to crash, where it will be destroyed by orbital bombardment and contained by Mars erected forcefields and tactical teams. The borg realize this, and begin to tear through the cruisers. That ship in the picture is one of the last to attempt the stratagem. From then on it becomes a mission to destroy the cube at whatever cost.

prob a borg cube is the worst thing you can do against it. The only right way to do is to hit it with everything you got the first time, otherwise the cube will just repair and adapt to your old tactic.

But the other factions obviously weren't going to attack it, and would want information on the current tech of the borg, plus there is the case of 7/9 parents following a cube for a while and not being attacked.

In STO canon, the ship is a replica of the NX-class hull using 25th century technology. It basically exists because the Starfleet Corps of Engineers felt like seeing if it could work.

The tech is actually prototype Reman tech from missions. There are several different pieces of ship equipment that can change your ship's appearance like that.

Fuck it, im gonna keep going with this. Worf is in charge of coordinating with the cloaked klingon task force. The klingons sent these forces for intelligence gathering purposes and for a good fight. They decloak and unleash a gigantic volley against the cube just before the cruisers tractor beam plan is engaged. The initial damage is great, but the borg adapt to their weaponry quickly, this situation is further worsened by the
Klingons lack of frequency control and weapon adaptability.

As the cruiser wing forces the cube into the Mars atmosphere the borg begin to get desperate. The plan is working but the fed ships are taking additional damage from reentry as well as the cube. The strategy is sure to succeed as long as the three galaxy class ships providing the brunt of tractor beam force remain intact. The cube focuses its attacks on the three ships, but in a daring display of maneuvering several fed ships move in to extend their shields around the galaxy class vessels. Victory is assured, until in a historical occurrence the borge cube dislodges a portion of its mass that crashes into the Galaxy class vessels and their surrounding escorts. They are all destroyed, an episode ends with cube escaping while raining cruiser remains onto the Mars surface.

The cube salvages what it can from the ejected portion.

Sometime after breaking away from mars, every Klingon ship is destroyed for refusing to back away. Many of their ships explode in acts of shielding others or ramming attacks. Federation weaponry is once again lowered to its worst effectiveness once the hull is reconfigured to stop accounting for Klingon attacks.

    >>7693119
While Worf is usually pretty calm and controlled for a Klingon, having sent many of his own race into a slaughtering house puts him into the mental state that would accept suicide. In the rage that can only come from letting down your species in a rare opportunity to regain their respect he forgets to attempt a beam over to cause the borg additional damage.

I kind of like that design, but not as an Enterprise. The Enterprise (the latter ones anyway) are Federation flagships. They should be the most impressive, most powerful, and best-looking ships the Federation has to offer. This looks much more utilitarian, like a small science vessel or something.

It actually looks different compared to all the many other Enterprises or Voyager and stands out, something Trek designs could probably do with. Ok, lets talk about what we would like to see in the game ship wise. Personally, I am eternally vigilant for a revamped ship tier system where every class can contribute to the end game pvp balance. Frankly, when everything inside of a ship is interchangeable with others, I see no reason a new shell of an old ship can't compete. Before you say theres no way the old ships can do it, please consider that the defiant is the size of a pea shooter but has a tier 5 retrofit.
