cube is eventually forced to drop out of warp outside of the Sol system
in order to keep its shields up. The battle drags on as waves of
Federation ships are destroyed one after another. Most of the cruisers
have been holding back for a special plan. They manage to force the cube
near Mars through fleet reinforcement/repairs from Utopia Planitia and
bad ass posturing of the fleet. The Borg also kind of go with it because
destroying the fleet yards would be a huge blow to the federation. The
Thunder Child is one of the main character ships/crew, they have a
primary mission of preventing the borg from assimilating anyone who
knows the plan, they even lead the task force in charge of it. This
involves daring rescue missions while attacking the cube. Essentially,
the ships huge shuttle bays are used to house the escapee's. But it goes
further than this, many of these people are cycled through kamikaze
beam ins in order to prevent key starfleet personel from being
assimilated. At one point, the Thunderchilds transporters are knocked
out, and it has to destroy a group of escape pods with its own weapons.
Over
Mars, the cruisers begin closing in on the cube, and the plan is
revealed to the whole fleet. A mass activation of tractor beams will be
used to force the cube to crash, where it will be destroyed by orbital
bombardment and contained by Mars erected forcefields and tactical
teams. The borg realize this, and begin to tear through the cruisers.
That ship in the picture is one of the last to attempt the stratagem.
From then on it becomes a mission to destroy the cube at whatever cost. |
