The original RAW doesn't seem to sync up with O-T's subs correctly so you might have to re-download it via torrent. It starts to go out of sync right after the theme song. The original RAW has the Grand Sponsors, while the O-T sub doesn't account for this.

It's not laziness, it's being dumb and taking after Japanese rippers thinking these sponsor segments are part of the show (in Japan, EVERY program has these)

That was awesome. I don't watch Sentai, usually, but this is too funny to pass up. Hell, I might get into other shows through this. Why would you use Over-time for Akibaranger? They are known to translate names and shit. What is the point of watching a series full of Akihabara inside jokes and such if they're just going to remove all that culture and replace it with "The English equivalent"?

Man, I really wish O-T didn't ditch DDL altogether. Torrents are normally okay with me, but for some reason I can never download them from Nyaa properly. Like, the download for the .torrent never starts at all, and I have no idea why.

So I'm pretty much going to have to find a way around that, or simply find someone else who's subbing Akiba.

I wonder what exactly this 'delusion' thing means. It seems like they did something, since the cafe owner person thanked them for helping out and doing whatever it is they're doing. Maybe they fight using their imaginations (which is why Red and Yellow were scouted) and their enemies are not actually real real, but 'real' in an imaginary sense? Wait this is making my head hurt. I wish they were actually fighting somewhere real alright? If this was all in their heads it would make me sad ;_;

Well, what would be a good way to translate it? Removing the in-jokey nature of the subs would mean losing that aspect where the show references geekdom and otaku shit. I guess you could fix it and make it more mainstream or whatever but I dunno, this show is aimed at people who post on 4chan (or 2ch as the case here probably is) so a normal person probably won't get it anyway.

This is one point where I wouldn't mind our western memes seeping into the subs as an alternative to the Futaba jokes, because really, how familiar are we with their sub-culture? Yeah, OT prolly will take liberties with this, as their translation motto has always been to present it in such a way that a western audience will get it the same way a japanese audience will, and this is their method how.

If you want a more direct translation of the jokes instead of referencing western memes, you can wait for TV-N I guess, that's probably the route they're taking. Granted you'll get japanese memes instead, but it's probably better since you don't like taking subbers taking liberties with the material.

And no, I'm not hating on TV-Nihon, they're probably what you want exactly.

I like how it sounds, but the implications of the sentence is problematic. It implies that sentai monsters grow is a universally known thing by everyone, since it's "common knowledge" instead of being a thing that happens in Super Sentai specifically. The logic behind tropes/clichés is that they're things that consistently happen in a genre or a niche or whatever. Super Sentai is a genre, and not everyone is familiar with it. Think of it as literature (inb4 hurr children's show): in romance/chick lit novels, a usual trope/cliche is that incredibly opposite people attract each other. Is it a universally known concept? Yes, because romance novels popularized it No, it's an idea that's prevalent in that genre. The same thing here.

Granted, this is just my two cents in the matter.

I don't really get the complaining, to be honest. I thought O-T's subs were quite accessible to someone like me that doesn't understand foreign memes very well. Are they going to make some sort of notes page on their site explaining their choices?

But besides that, the show seemed to be made with 2ch in mind, so converting it to be as though it's for 4chan seems like it would be the ideal route. Keeping it as the 2ch meme version or breaking the memes down even more doesn't seem like it would work much for the majority of people who would want to watch this.
