NA release later in 2012. Thankfully that's enough time for me to finish my major, because ACV will probably ruin my life.

Back in 3 and Silent Line I always made some ridiculously stupid cores with mission specific roles that never actually arise, just fun to do. Like my favorite was a core with long range detection capability, gave it a sniper rifle, and the sniper FCS. Sure it wasn't usable by a long shot in multiplayer, but it had some uses in some of the missions.

To be perfectly honest, I'm really not. I mean, they're not horrible, but I don't really dig the overstacked with square armor, midget mecha look. I'm sure there'll be ways to customize something cool but they're not my favorite mecha designs to come out of the series by a long shot so far. I agree with making the AC's smaller though.

However, the other features, such as being able to be an operator in online, are all really cool sounding. More than enough to make up for my lukewarm reception for the mecha themselves, although how strong the multiplayer is will probably make a big difference since it probably won't be customizing aesthetically pleasing cores.

There's viable builds upon viable builds that can even emerge from tweeks in thematic designs in games before the netcode became the enemy.

I can't imagine how you couldn't see the value in machineguns, solid rifles, scatterguns even, EO cores, or grenade launchers. Unless you're talking about counterpicking a particular VS mode meta.

dude, actually its the reverse. since they introduced the whole tuninig shit, and all that other crap like the reload time afterxshots, people started to stick to basic...no, mindless tactics, like rushing straight to the target shooting all the guns, hoping to resist more than the opponent. SL was the last were you had to valutate your fighting style, and choose parts and equipment accordingly.
it depends on you. I liked to use laser rifles, they're pretty useful for me.I know a guy who never misses with no-lock weapons, but can't figure out how to use overboost...learning what's easiest to use for you is part of the fun, I guess
also, I'm curious what you consider the only useful parts. two internet bucks on the Karasawa and the MG-1000

    PSTriple.

Took this from the ACV Facebook page:

"80 short missions are available in Order Mission!
In ACV, there are 2 single player misions called Story Missions and Order Missions.
Order Missions are taking place after timeline of Story Missions.
Base atomosphere between these 2 modes are same and there will be some common characters as well.

In Order Missions, although each missions are shorter, many variations and contents are prepared.

On the other hand, Story Missions are long missions. Gameplay time for each mission is long and objective of the missions will be frequently changed based on the situation on battlefield.

So, ACV has newly evolved story based missions in Story Missions and traditional armored core experience in Orde Missions. Those 2 single player modes include huge volume.

Also, those single player missions are compatible with 2 players online as well.

It is actually up to players to clear all missions, or to enjoy between team missions."

I do hope the story missions that you can coop for are much, much, much longer I never got a chance for that in Another Age. I remember the Consort and "Associated" ACs in missions getting really deep and well long closer to Silent Line. And I just imagined how working with another player for those missions would go.

I was so disappointed when I actually played coop in For Answer. All the missions were basically 1 hop long, in open fields, so my decade's worth of daydreams for tactical coordination bypassing bunker's defenses, and pushing towards the same goal hit flat.

I've never seen a FROM SOFTWARE ad, nor tried to keep up with news of upcoming AC games before the generation jump. So I don't know exactly what their track record is on grandiose promises.

I however HOPE what this means is threefold. First that some to most of the missions WILL be lengthier and some sufficiently complex. Maybe not to the point they're all confused with trials of endurance... but enough that an AC poorly equipped for that mission can possibly run out of ammo. Second; that there will be fewer missions that are straight skirmishes with another AC will be limited. Because that's easily facilitated through arena matches and online play. Third that at least some of the missions are designed to be played coop. So there's less directly pushing forward to a linear point or series of points, and breaking off to have each one concentrate on two ACs. Instead more well just viable stratagems. Whether it's aggroing the AC guard away from the objective to give your partner the opening to attack/infiltrate/hack/sabatoge it, intercepting reinforcements to your ally's position, or proceeding quicker through the facility to destroy the turrets' targeting computer so your partner can advance unmolested.

I won't demand they owe me a game that is a direct representation of my dreams. But I know they can do so much better than the coop in AC4A.

I would assume that's a given for an AC game by this point, but who knows? Before it was viable because you were squaring off against other Ravens/Lynx who were part of one organisation. This doesn't seem like there is Nest/Cortex/Collared that houses the world's best mercs for you to beat on.

That said pulling out an arena mode altogether would be an odd move.

I'd like to know how operator selection goes. I mean Dark Souls has that noice "XXXX Successful Coops" crystal, and something like that could probably be added to the pregame lobby.

But I'm just recalling some of the faction teasers that seem to suggest that players should fast make a clique with 1 tactician and 4 pilots. But also that as players cycle offline assume the other's roles and hire out mercs.

I wonder... will that allow for a mercenary tacticians?

As far as I know they haven't said how contract fees are set, but I do believe people pick from a list.

I think it would make the most sense to have it set your price automatically. Based on win/lost ratio, k/d, player feedback, or some mix of those. Because players setting their own fees would likely end with a bunch of people charging 1c just to get hired a lot.

If you're bitter because you couldn't keep up, shame on you, retard. I like the excitement of going fast. What it needed as the icing on the cake was a ZOE style close-combat engine, then the gameplay would really match the kind of thing we see in Japanese mecha shows.

A mecha would never be about tanking hits. Something with so many joints is far too fragile.
You could simplify the hell out of a mecha still have a machine that would do exactly the same stuff.

The only reason it would be so humanoid is to adjust its center of balance like we do.
Why would it need to do that?

Because it evades instead of getting hit.

I like Quickboost and I like the stability. What I think it needed was a detection dynamic where the faster you moved, the bigger sensor profile you made, especially using Quickboost.

If you fell under your enemy's detection rate, you'd be stealthed until you fired.

Bonus points if tanks can fire back and front weapons simultaniously.

Honestly I hated the super speed direction. In the 3 universe I think they got the balance of speed and clunkyness perfect. It made me feel like I was piloting a robot, and it made me feel like a badass pilot. In FA I felt like a dude in a suit. and it got borring.
And before you say things like LAWL YOU JUST SUCKED. I made a NEXT SPECIFFICALLY for anti-blading. It's weight was distributed to only go side to side and quick turn. With machineguns it was a beast, they'd charge I'd dodge, they'd die. But never felt badass, or even like a pilot.

Honestly I just miss 3's whole universe. It went from Utopian post apocalytic mecha, to Utopian Mecha, to Dystopian, to Dystopian post apocalyptic. Now THAT is story progression.

Gundam VS Gundam is so arcadish... I want a high-speed mecha-sim, not a lobotomized crapshoot of Virtual On that doesn't even have the control scheme that made half the game because the lockon system is invasive to make up for the god awful controls.

Same goes for ACE. The gameplay itself is jerky and there's no metric between your actions or any kind of response the game decides to give at any given moment. It advertises itself as swordfighting in ancient Europe and delivers an experience much closer to using a table-saw in woodshop. Nice.

Agreed. The autolock lobotomizes the games, especially at range (ruining gunfights) and the lack of any tactile feel like inertia and lack of any manual boost mechanics really hurt the feel of the game, making it very boring very quickly and extremely clumsy compared to say ZOE or ACFA. I feel like I'm waving around a figurine, not controlling a robot. I love mecha but oh god ACE:R is so boring to play and GvG doesn't even have the speed to make up for it.

OB was much cheaper over time and was a great way to avoid missiles. For example, if someone uses Vertical Launch Missiles, you OB directly at/under them aggressively and the missiles hit the ground because their turning arc isn't good enough.

Not him, but it caused maneuvering to consist of "boost hop" and more boost hop, with the occasional fast forward.

Actually, I think that could be fine, if they'd just make walking actually useful in AC, perhaps by toning down boost speed a little so running isn't so incredibly useless.

I really hate the look of the FLOATY ASS lossless descent mode. Makes it look like the wall jumping isn't really going to be such a wise move.

But I do think I can deal with like how it doesn't look like chainquickboosting... assuming nothing in here is just a debug grace.

I do too. God I wish they'd just made it slightly more like the old games and not gone back with the 4 Answer route so blatantly.

I can't be the only one that dislikes how much this one is going to be geared to dual wielding weapons, am I?

I want to like what I see of ACV, but everything looks like they integrated different pieces of AC games completely wrong. I dislike the AC aesthetic, hate that there's no back weapons, don't like the half-assed quick-boost-floating... It's not like I think this is the worst game ever, but this is turning out to be almost entirely the AC game I don't want. I loved For Answer, mind you, but this... Just looks awkward to me. Still going to get it, and I'm sure I'll still get some pretty good times out of it (At least the online mode is spot on) but man, it's disappointing the Hell out of me.

It would be nice if you actually made long strides with the AC instead of just fast-walking. Actual sprinting, you know?

Shit like no-en-cost dives or special moves would improve walking too. I think AC should definitely focus on upping the physical capabilities of the robots. I'm not against infinite flight, either, but there should be clear pros and cons to either. Something that flies for ever probably shouldn't really be that agile while it's flying, frankly, and also probably not take that many hits, for instance...

Thing is; I do like how fast the energy gauge exhausts. Just... that running out of energy really doesn't seem to limit the second tier of mobility. I guess for something that really looks the part of an 8 ton war machine; I don't like how it isn't dropping like a stone.

Obviously players favor mobility, and it MAY be that the player is actually giving a minimal depression on the boost button to control his fall, and from what I can tell this AC is using solid ammo. And it may be that a bit of the air mobility is being beta'd out, or various regulations to throttle it down could be released.

But I'm just as apprehensive. If only because I wanted this game, with all the emphasis on urban environments, to rely on ground-based cover a bit more than that beta tester is.

As for the *floaty* complaints, if you look at when the boosters actually disengage the AC does drop out of the air quickly. The player is using quick gun and run tactics very much like in the original series.

    >>7131861

As for walking and running faster, get the legs that fit the bill. I don't doubt that if you want some nimble quick legs, they will be there but you'll take a small but noticeable energy consumption hit. That has always been the case.

Hey guys, ACV Armored Cores are 5 meters in height, right?

Not only that, but the acquisition of a lot of tech used on them seems to be dug up rather than built.

Think about it guys. Say a group of miners dig up this huge ass robot that's easily four times the size of your average ACV-verse Armored Core. Shortly after the machine was unearthed, contact with said group was lost, and your employer sends you and a few other pilots with you to investigate. After traveling through a system of tunnels and elevators large enough to accommodate your group's ACs, you finally enter the interior of some run-down arena. In the center is SOMETHING, but it's too damn dark to see just what it is. The lights then turn back on, revealing all kinda of carnage, ranging from wrecked ACs, to destroyed mining equipment, and even the bloody remains of the miners, Standing in the center of it all is the tallest AC you've ever laid your eyes on, it's body as red as the blood staining the ground.

The machine turns to face your group, it's optics flash, and your blood runs cold as a synthesized male voice emanates from the behemoth.

    "TARGETS VERIFIED. COMMENCING HOSTILITIES."

Cue a boss battle against a twenty meter tall Nineball Seraph, or a machine that is eerily similar, versus your group of five meter tall ACs.

I'm not saying I want to go back to PS2 era boost dropping to avoid fire. I'm not saying I demand a particular maximum throttle. But the ease of energy management, how easy it looks to to stay airborne; really makes the dropship insertion look like an aesthetic choice.
