Dark Horse published a comic based on the game.

Anyway, I remember this. But I never actually bought the game, I only played the demo. Maybe I'll snatch it if it comes on GOG.com, I don't feel like pirating it.

I thought it was horrible, but I had a hilarious time playing it because of that.

My brother would watch and laugh at me.

I remember that the controls in the PC version were godawful and you couldn't reconfigure them.
Also, wasn't there a Metal Gear-esque mech that was shown on some preview screens in magazines but never appeared in the game?

    Yes, there was. Dammit, Bungie.

    FUCK
I wish bungie would stop fapping over halo and give us another Oni, do it right this time.

I dunno, Halo's their big moneymaker. I could see them doing something with Marathon again, but who honestly remembers Oni? Who's gonna go rushing out to buy copies on release day?

Like Halo, Bungie doesn't own the rights to Oni.

Also, Oni was the only game developed by "Bungie West", when they had a separate studio and before the main one moved from Chicago to Seattle. I'm not really certain what that meant from a personnel standpoint though, as a lot of the staff is shared with Halo and other Bungie games.

Oni game is shit. Metacritic agrees.

Interesting game when it was new, some horrible level designs and some of the hardest boss fights ever.

Fucking loved this game on PC, hard as hell but worth playing, I remember the UK PC Zone or Gamer giving it a 80 odd percent score at the time it came out because whilst the gameplay was great, some of the textures and the levels didn't look properly finished, other than that though it was grand.

If Bungie won't or can't make another Oni game, then I'd love to see another Myth game, they could make a third one and pretend the real third one didn't actually exist.

    >some of the textures and the levels didn't look properly finished

IIRC that was due to the fact that the levels were designed by an actual architect with no videogame design experience who tried to make the buildings as futuristic (read: sterile and boring) as possible.

    oh lord dat airport level.
If /m/ desires I can upload the disk for you guys, it's a semi fun game with MANY flaws and unbalances, but it has what has to be my favorite tutorial of any videogame. Also it was back when the PC gaming industry didn't care about people pirating a CD so there actually isn't any serial, just run for fun.

I like that the levels are bad because they got actual architects to design them.

Turns out that realistic buildings aren't nearly as exciting to run through and shoot up as silly fictional ones.

    Still, I like the game.

It was practically a rip off of GITS in its early dev stages. I did a lot of research on it a few years ago trying to track its evolution.

Bad dev team at Bungie West. They had an architect doing level design, and then other idiots doing the bad jumping puzzles. Neither worked. Thankfully they got better at later games.
Bad Engine, original story draft was derivative as fuck and had to be rewritten, cross platform slowed things up, and they kept trying to work in faulty multiplayer code. By the time the game was overdue they needed to cut multiplayer, a couple of boss fights, and even a level or so I've heard. This cram prevented them from making the necessary story revisions and design changes to level pacing to make the game more engaging. By the time it released its engine was outdated, and looked antiquated by comparison to Max Payne which came out a year later.

Story boils down to bio-enhanced girl cop girl working for a oppressive totalitarian government goes on a rampage after finding out her whole existence was a lie. Beats up cops and syndicate criminals.

    >couldn't reconfigure
Now, with the demo I remember you could edit the key mapping in one of the config files - it was pretty straightforward. No idea how it is with the full version.

Of course, these days you just run Joy to Key or similar and remap that.

I remember my wrist hurting from the PC demo's default controls, by the way.

I'm guessing Shogo was better, but don't really know.

Was given it by a friend last year.

Tossed it into a drawer and never looked back after the horrible controls kept me from getting through the tutorial.

    Fuck Rockstar.
