Recently read Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut, and I enjoyed how he wrote about the ironies of human actions.

For example (excuse me if it's not word for word)
>As the man filled his vehicle, he lamented the high price of gasoline. Gasoline was once very plentiful and inexpensive, but the humans had harvested it all and turned it into heat.

ITT: Post why you hate the human race.
>>
but I don't hate the human race.

>Dem dick sizes.
I really love BoC, I try to reread it every year. What other works by Vonnegut have you read?
>>
BoC is by far, Vonnegut's, worst work

What do you find ironic about the human race?
>>

Didn't he kill himself over it?

dat comma

sorry

>>3422283
dunno, even Vonney himself thought it was average.

I think it might be because i'd read a bunch of his other stuff before getting to it and it just completely fell in comparison. Just really felt diluted and contrived.
>>
>>3422303
that some people hate it because a member of it pointed out the occasional absurdness of its actions
>>
>>3422365
one who happened to be a humanist too
>>
Have you read Mother Night yet? It's much better. You find the same general criticism in everything Vonnegut wrote. My personal favorite is Mother Night because it feels like his most focused novel. It is, however, significantly less funny.
>>
>>3422409
not OP but i thought mother night was kinda meh, sirens of titan was always my shit
>>
Quick question somewhat related to OP:

What are some good authors you would recommend to a fan of Vonnegut?
>>
>>3422619
Depends on what you like about Vonnegut?
Do you like his writing style, the dark humor, or something else about it?
