/lit/ seems more civil than most other placex on 4chan, true. But thats like saying Baghdad is a pretty cool place in comparison to the siege of Stalingrad.

STOP WITH YOUR STUPID ARGUMENTS ABOUT EXISTENTIALISM; AYN RAND, BHUDDHISM, SALINGER AND JOYCE!
The half that has any profound idea about them is trolled by the other half who think those are clothing-brands popular in Greenwich Village.
    Get over it, seriously.

GTFO, existentialist douchebag. Take your objectivism and fuck a tree, stupid postmodern zen-loving hipster.

OP, my man, you forgot Nietzsche!
    How could you?
    You stupid phenomenological-whatchamacallit-dumbletweed!

    Dude, it's just healthy debate.

    We all love each other.
    >> Anonymous 01/27/10(Wed)19:41 No.78188
Then what? No more discussions on any books because it'd be construed as trolling? You take the good with the bad.
    >> Anonymous 01/27/10(Wed)19:42 No.78199

    Those two.
Also, why dont you go back where you came from, read The Corrections once again, light up a french cigarette and talk to your hipster-friends about some Phillipp fucking Roth.
    I hate greenwich village.
    >> Anonymous 01/27/10(Wed)19:44 No.78261
Fuck you! How dare you put that hack on the same level as Joyce and Salinger?
    >> Anonymous 01/27/10(Wed)19:45 No.78278
Well, i dont know if you are aware that there are other things in literature than the shit mentioned in my post above. If you dont see that, you are hypocrites.

The selection was made upon the number of retarded rage-threads you encounter when going on /lit/ that deal with those topics.
    >> Anonymous 01/27/10(Wed)19:50 No.78371
As much as i love to debate Joyce on here, OP got a point. It seems to be enough to even mention Ayn Rand and a shitstorm ensues. Also the strange reoccurring requests for "existentialist" reading. Trashy fiction aside, is this really all /lit/ has to offer?
But it might be my own fault, i cant be bothered to start my own threads...

Then start your own threads about the stuff you think is lacking. Its very base-democratic in here. If people respond, you can change it all. If not, well, then the masses have spoken.
    >> Anonymous 01/27/10(Wed)19:55 No.78498
Just as /tv/ will forever argue about Kubrick, so must we argue about Existentialism.

well, now, thats exactly what i try to do here, isnt it?

This board is just going /mu/ with books if this whole "MY BOOK IS BETTER THAN YOUR BOOK! YOUR BOOK IS SHIT!" nonsense doesn't end.

Can't we just accept that we all have different tastes?

Please add Christianity to that list. I'm pretty tired of seeing people get shit on for bringing up anything remotely Christian when there's clearly an emphasis on literature.

I don't mean not discuss them; just stop arguing about whatever you believe. It's not relevant if you believe in the Bible or not. You can still have a discussion about its contents.

I don't think OP has a point. I've seen topics about existentialist works, post-modern works, "trash" lit, fantasy, science-fiction, etc. It's quite diverse in here. Probably what's lacking is discussion about anything written before the 19th century. We need more Shakespeare, Goethe, Balzac,& Cervantes going on here.

    Y..you're right!

Well, the religion debates and the philosophy debates are quite related in my opinion. While it is true that one should not dismiss the other because of its religion, sometimes the fury that comes with belief is contraproductive. (goes far beyond just "religion")

True, there is a diversity here. But the dominance and sillyness of the topics i stated above anger me, and i think that taking a break from those can enable some less... moronic discussions. ALso, any troll just needs to type something about rand or existentialism and everybody jumps on the bandwagon, yelling the crap out of each other. They know it will work, because it is constantly like that.
