    23 KB 3700 ebooks 05/13/10(Thu)17:21 No.666381
I'm back, /lit/, and now that I'm out of college for the semester I've put my free time to expanding the previous archive of books. It's now at 3700 and the entire archive is about 2GB. I've also sorted every book into subfolders by author and by series, and got rid of a few password-locked and dead archives that I'd overlooked.

For a complete list of files in the archive:

But wat do with the previous lot?
If I download this over the top of the other one and click "skip all" when it says "X already exists", will that update it without problems like duplicates and such?
    >> Anonymous 05/13/10(Thu)17:33 No.666437
    >>666417
No, because this archive is all sorted into subfolders. You're probably best off just deleting the old one entirely, since this one contains all of the old one (minus ones that didn't work) as well as a thousand new ones, re-sorted.

I'm both excited and drained by this news.
Ah well, a bit of book-sorting is surely worth it.
    Actually, the thing that's most distressing is the possibility of never reading them all ;_;

AND I've added some of my own books into the folders on my hard drive, so this might get confusing...

This might be easier than you think: Sort the folder by the date the file was added. Any file added after the date you extracted the archive will go to the top or bottom. Keep those, nuke the rest, profit.

Making and seeding a torrent would be kind of annoying for me, for a few different reasons (if nothing else, my computer has a bad PSU and I'd like to avoid leaving it on to seed for too long until I can replace it)

I wouldn't care if someone else did it though.

i am aware that there is the ZWG project, but would it be possible to join forces with them as a resource for this board? It would be nice to keep track of pertinent links for /lit/ in one place. I have also been thinking about a community contributed "flashcard" database for vocabulary. I would like to start this, but I think it is a little disorganized having something like that disconnected with links such as ZWG, this thread, and the possible flash card database.

Thanks OP. I'm not sure if you're the same guy who shared a small list of books a while ago, but shit is appreciated greatly.

I shared the previous archive (which was about 2300 iirc) a few weeks ago, but I'm not sure if that's what you mean.

    >> Anonymous 05/15/10(Sat)00:42 No.671777
    >>671766
There's a hell of a lot more books this time, so I'd say yes. But it's nothing you need immediately, you could download, say, half of it now and half next month. (This one, unless mediafire takes it down itself, won't go down anytime soon)

Come at it from another angle, don't think of collecting books as keeping the ones you have read but as a library of information that is electricity failure proof and a handy reference for all the owner's life. A book collection should be bigger than its owner.

Google "NN Taleb Umberto Eco library" it is explained better than my random babblings.
    >> Anonymous 05/15/10(Sat)07:24 No.672631
Odd, only one book from Jack London?

    Anyway, thanks mate.

    Sticky it this time, please.
    >> Anonymous 05/15/10(Sat)20:23 No.674357
We should host this list on one of those free website things. Then when someone asks for something in e-book form, we can link them to it, and there can be a section of the site where we can link to our own e-books that aren't in the main set. It can be the ultimate book-hosting site. :D
    >> Anonymous 05/15/10(Sat)20:53 No.674439
    >>674357
Bandwidth and storage space tends to be limited. And they usually suck. But that would be nice, having a huge directory that is actually easy to search with a consistent format?
    >> Anonymous 05/15/10(Sat)21:15 No.674478
    >>674439
But you wouldn't be hosting the actual books on it- just the links to them, so it would be a very lightweight site. Plus, the ability to post books that aren't in the main list would be absolutely exquisite.
    >> Anonymous 05/15/10(Sat)21:24 No.674491

    >> Anonymous 05/15/10(Sat)21:53 No.674572

    >> Anonymous 05/15/10(Sat)22:06 No.674603

    Yes.
