/lit/I want to get into more French literature. All I've read are three books by Victor Hugo. I know there's a vast sea of other French literature, though. Where should I start?
>>621091I can't read French. I'd be reading translations. English titles would be preferred (though I can pick out the easy ones (e.g. The Count of Monte Cristo).
>>621093Just type the titles into wiki or amazon, it'll bring up the translated titles.
Journey to the End of the Night (Voyage au bout de la nuit) - Louis Ferdinand CelineAmazing book that changed my entire view on life. An absolute must read before you die.
>>621127That looks really interesting. I'll give it a go.
Alexandre Dumas, obv.
Jules Verne to get a feel for the writing and then you can move on to the heavier stuff.
Why? When British and Russian literature is clearly superior? Sure there are a couple of classics that should be read, but the rest can be left alone.
>>621183>Hurr my opinions are completely objective.
>>621186Well of course.
The Red and the Black by Stendhal is pretty great.
Holy fuck man there's just so many. Camus, Dumas, Voltaire, Sartre, Hugo, Proust...and the list just goes on and on
>>621183British Literature is booorrringg. Even their ugly Irish neighbours do better.
