I want to get into more French literature. All I've read are three books by Victor Hugo. I know there's a vast sea of other French literature, though. Where should I start?

I can't read French. I'd be reading translations. English titles would be preferred (though I can pick out the easy ones (e.g. The Count of Monte Cristo).

Just type the titles into wiki or amazon, it'll bring up the translated titles.

Jules Verne to get a feel for the writing and then you can move on to the heavier stuff.

Why? When British and Russian literature is clearly superior? Sure there are a couple of classics that should be read, but the rest can be left alone.
