    I want to be a children's author but I'm a guy.

    Am I screwed?

no, if you've taken this seriously, you would know how many successful male children's authors there are.

    >> Anonymous 04/01/10(Thu)19:55 No.504119
No, you just have to make sure you have a very public, healthy, heterosexual relationship.

Problem with pseudonyms is, if someone makes it big it isn't long before the pseudonym goes public, especially if you're in a sensitive field like being a children's author. Then people start to ask, why exactly were you pretending to be someone you're not?

The easiest solution is to kill scandal before it starts. You want to be a male children's author? Fine, just be in a loving relationship, preferably with children.
    >> Anonymous 04/01/10(Thu)20:04 No.504146
I think its a good idea for authors in modern child literature to have androgynous pseudonyms. Also trying to shield the real name from blurbs and reviews (not that children read reviews I guess). Like be Emerson Swanson or Parker Park or something.

Also, be sure to review your work and never let a any marks go by the could somehow in some warped universe filled with dumbasses as potentially anti-feminist. Because we live in a warped universe filled with dumbasses.

My main character is female, and I am writing in the first person. I am using my initials on the by-line.

JK Rowling used her initials because her publisher thought that a female writing a male protag would not work.

As long as you don't leave your audience with preconceived notion, then you'll work out just fine.
