Yup, I'm the chosen one and me and a bunch of guys I found in the desert brought the greatest empire in the universe to its knees in quite possibly the most contrived battle sequence ever. The whole premise of Dune is laughable and it's hard to tell any of the characters apart from each other.

As much as I hate to say this words, but the LOTR movies were much better than the books. The "people walking" description is very fitting. Even Silmarillion, with its hundreds of characters and few or no protagonists was more interesting.

Dune is cool.

I absolutely ADORED Dune when I first read it.
Haven't read any of the sequels or seen any film adaptions of it because I am sure that they will never (and cannot) live up to it.

I'd still vote for LoTR, though.
Those books were my childhood.

There was no conflict in Dune's battles though. It was just the Sardaukar getting their asses handed to them left and right. I never once thought that Paul's faction would lose because it was established early on that Fremen are like super saiyan warriors that can fight toe to toe with Sardaukar with results as good as one dead Fremen for every 30 Sardaukar.
