I don't have any hobbies. I've tried to get interested in various things, including different types of sports, traditional games and video games, languages, history, music, playing instruments, cooking, arts and crafts, cars, nature, programming, asg, journalism, magic and paranormal, acting, fashion, collecting stuff, watching movies and TV series, animu and mangu, knitting and sewing, the list goes on. Nothing keeps me interested. At some point in my life I tried to worship a god just to have something to do on Sundays. I've also tried to be a fan of something or someone, but it seems to be even harder than having a hobby. The only activities I keep coming back to are reading and drawing. It makes me a bit sad, just how knowing that I won't ever have a pack of bffs makes me a bit sad. Everywhere I see people enjoying their hobbies and spending time doing crazy stuff with their friends. Everything bores me and social gatherings make me extremely tired.I just don't enjoy things everyone does. I wish I could at least brag about it, but I believe it must be quite common nowadays.

I don't really have hobbies. Reading bores me most of the time these days. I spend some time online browsing and researching certain interests but that doesn't really captivate me either. I'm actually pretty much done with most media, but when I leave them alone I feel a little abandoned. So I'm trying to get used to the quietness and mental rest of not engaging in such entertainment. I'm trying to become a bit of a dog. I take pleasure in eating and drinking and sleeping and walking around and laying in the sun and fucking and masturbating though. Those things are always nice. I'd like to get a bit more healthy and wiry and tan and hard and all that. Take my asceticism to the next level. Diminish my possessions even more as well.I've always despised "hobbies" as a concept. It devaluates certain experiences as something less than work and less than play.It really evokes an imagine of utterly mundane and sad little men toying around with miniature railways or something like that. Paradoxically, admitting to having hobbies seems to me in some way admitting to have an empty life. They always seem like activities to fill the time, instead of working on one's life as a whole. I might take up writing again though. I feel I have something to say, but I'm not quite sure what it is yet.

OP sounds like one really annoying bitch I knew back in highschool. For fuck's sake, faggot, go have sex, because it's all you apparently need. Actually intelligent peope don't have "hobbies" like "violin / ney flute" or "ambidexterity".Hobbies as a concept, in general, are for dimwits who can't take seriously things they enjoy doing. What sort of fucked up home culture produces people who call things they love "hobbies"? It's either a passion, a necessary evil, or a thing to be avoided or ignored. A "hobby" is a faux concept.
Hiking, learning Italian and Greek, translating German, playing violin, writing (short stories, pretty much exclusively). I also ski and try to take long train journeys, but not as often as the other stuff.
>>2833734Semantics, how do they work?Obviously he meant "hobby" as in something he does when he is not working or filling the physiological needs. Jeez, get over yourself.
I read, write, have sex, play the violin and the piano, compose, play video games (mostly RPGs and other atmospheric or architecturally interesting games). I also study mathematics and physics when I have some free time (rarely) and I work towards being a decent patissiere. I'm majoring in architecture.I'm not very social, so I have lots of time to do these things.Picture is my beloved violin. I'm currently playing movements from the D minor partita by Bach.
I read, I write, I study for uni, I go to weekend parties, I run on the beach with my dog, and I call my fuckbuddy when I'm lonely. That's the end of me.

>>2834116It is. Give me a better way to learn a language with very scarce learning material available. Watching drams, listening to music, reading poetry, talking to natives. Are about the best ways to do so, in the absence of concrete learning material. >>2834217Immersion IS a legit language learning method, but it's a supplement to conventional methods, not a replacement.
>>2834184Because me listening to music goes much deeper than just having some sound on the ears when browsing 4chan. It's something I do without disturbances while I look up the story of the piece beforehand and reflect upon it later, maybe looking at the sheet music to understand how the piece is constructed. Probably just like how you read your books, am I right? This thorough examination of music makes it much more enjoyable to listen to. In addition to understanding it on an emotional level, I can also appreciate it's intellectual qualities.
>>2834234>>2834225 hereThat's the spirit, my friend.
>>2834232For languages like French, Spanish, German, etc, that are so widely sought out as languages to learn and thus have tons of language learning materials, yeah. It'd be silly to try to teach yourself grammar without a book. I mean otherwise you have to talk to tons of different people and add up the things they all do the same until a little lightbulb goes off in your head saying THIS MUST BE A GRAMMAR RULE lol. I.E, do things the way we did them before we had books to teach us this stuff and make our lives easier.
>>2834241But you're not trying your damnedest to have an intelligible conversation with a podcast.
>>2834242Eh? I figured it was implied you'd take the stuff you hear in podcasts and tv shows and then try it out with native speakers. That's what I always do for hard to learn languages at least.
>>2834244Oh, sorry. Yeah, that kind of immersion works. But the other person said they were just putting french news radio on as background noise.
>>2834247Oh no, that's retarded lol. You have to actually try out the stuff you learn with people who speak the language. I hope no one here thinks they can learn a language by watching the news everyday while they eat their cereal, and then leave it at that. There needs to be a huge emphasis placed on ACTUALLY talking to other people hahahaha
>>2834248The anon from >>2834091 was talking about acquiring passive understanding, though. While it's not actually learning the language in full, immersion of that style can teach you to understand the language. You just won't be able to use it.
>>2834259That's true I suppose. Hard for me to look at it like that since my whole thing with learning languages is to be able to speak to other people, explore other worlds, so to speak. I can't really talk about this then, I'm not familiar with this kind of learning or goal.

>>2831683>tfw you try to listen to shinzen young talk about something and he keeps saying "feel" over and over and you can't take it seriously
>>2834079Time management, mostly. I allot X hours for each activity (with some wiggle room), 5 days a week at the minimum. For example, I play instruments for at least 3 hours a day. That usually ends up being an hour and a half to 2 hours of my main instrument, the classical guitar, and an hour and a half to an hour for exercises on another. I may spend 30 minutes doing dynamics exercises, speed exercises, and syncopation and stick control exercises for drums. And then I may spend 30 minutes on another instrument running scales, practicing a new technique, refining an old one, or what have you. Or I may spend the whole of the "other instrument" time learning a new piece on just one instrument, leaving the other for later. The main thing with instruments is learning the art of practicing, and what allows you to improve the most in the smallest amount of time. After time, you'll have cultivated skills in a number of instruments and be able to play competent and advanced pieces at your leisure, or be able to improvise fluently over chord changes, or be able to compose beautiful music with your understanding of the instrument, and that's where the joy is - at least for me (beyond practicing, which I also love.)
>>2834275 cont'dBooks and language learning, I can almost guarantee that you any person could fit in an hour of, at least, a day. With software, also available on mobile devices, like Anki (a flashcard program on crack), podcasts, etc, you can fit in at least an hour of language practice during commutes. An hour a day of study in this manner, in tandem with a venture through some workbooks, before you know it you'll be starting to read, write, think, and speak in a new language (obviously depending on the language - Mandarin will take far longer than Spanish, obviously.) Books, similarly, you can read during commutes (assuming you're taking a bus or the like), during down time wherever you may be, etc. Exercise, as I see it, is simply a matter of waking up an hour early. Do you get 8 hours of sleep a night? Well, get seven; wake up and run for 45 minutes and then hop in the shower. You'll feel better.Of course, other people are different than me and may prefer spending more time socializing. I personally prefer to cultivate these interests that I have, and share them with like minded people on off days.
>>2834277Also, obviously one can interchange any one hobby for another to apply to any of the motherfuckers in this thread. Whilst I don't believe that everyone who has posted does these things daily, and may not necessarily be the best at them, I also don't find it hard to believe that many people do excel in many of their hobbies
i really love birdwatching - not really checking them off a list but just walking around a park or even a city street and noting the little struggles going on in the treetops and the sky; i live in singapore at the moment which is a great city in terms of birdlife but i'm going to montreal for college and i'm worried it's going to be a barren arctic wasteland. any canadians who share my passion care to tell me it's different?
>>2834306i was kinda like that with bugs back in high school. i went as far as taking a little note book and drawing all kinds of different bugs i saw and i'd give em cool names. then i would sit in the library and read books about different kinds of bugs. was pretty cool watching their daily struggles and battles and shit. i imagine parts of canada aren't barren and arctic. they must surely have tons of birds there.
>>2834306I've never been to Canada, but I live in northern Norway (far more north than Montreal). Whilst there inevitably is some tundra this at this latitude, there is plenty of biome diversity, and thriving communities of all sorts of birds. There's less of them in the winter, of course, and Canada might be somewhat different. My point is, north does not equal wasteland.
>>2834306I can't speak for Montreal, but Toronto has an amazing diversity of bird life. We get a lot of species on their migration routes south. I've been seeing some species as well that typically don't get this far north. Must be climate change.
