I've had the privilege of chatting with and meeting a lot of great people from 4chan over the past 8.5 years, and lost touch with many.
If we used to chat/hang, drop me a line at moot@4chan.org or on AIM at MOOTCHAT. And if we haven't, feel free to say hi.

Introducing /wsg/ - Worksafe GIF

Update: /rs/ - Rapidshares is fixed—sorry for the downtime there. Also I think we've fixed most issues with boards.4chan.org and sys.4chan.org. Keep your fingers crossed!

Are the Warhammer 40k books any good?

ask on /v/ or /toy/ or somewhere else.

Im talking about books kind sir.
>>
Not OP.

A friend gave me a big stack of them to read. They are tattered and well worn. They are the only books he reads.

I started to slog through the first of the Guant's Ghost novels but I can't finish it for the life of me. The writing is choppy, the action is monotonous, the characters are uninteresting, etc. I didn't realize how spoiled I am by the /lit/ canon.

Cool setting though.

Sorry. I thought you said "Warhammer 40k books". You meant actual books? Sure, what sort of books are you interested in?
>>
Yeah I loved them

well some of them

as a child.

I know that youre asking for 40k books, and /lit/ cant or wont help you that much.
>>
>>2715313
Well normally i prefer older more philosophical books (Candide, A Brave New World, A Clockwork Orange)

Abnett's OK, though he flies fast and loose with lore consistency. Ciaphas Cain is generally considered OK if a bit hack-y and repetitive. A lot of the books aren't THAT bad, if you like schlock. It's really more an issue of separating the "acceptable schlock" from the "deviantart fanfic" tier writing, than that they're all uniformly bad. After all, the authors are just random scifi/fantasy writers who were commissioned to write for the setting. A handful are gonna be decent.

Still, /tg/ would be way more helpful about this since they've read more of them than /lit/.

Are they, though? I thought they effectively applied for the job and weren't established authors beforehand. Established authors wouldn't generally like to tie themselves down to shitty 'canon'- at least, not while they still have hope that they can succeed by being original.

Also, I do know at least one of them was a games designer who started attempting fiction and OH JESUS IT SHOWS.
