Official 4chan Chrome Extension updated for new HTML! Comes with a bunch of new features including post filtering and text buttons. More features to be rolled out later this week. The new extension runs orders of a magnitude faster on large threads.
Download it here!

After nearly a decade, we've rewritten our HTML/CSS from scratch and are now running on that new code. 4chan now validates HTML5/CSS3, and with a few other tweaks we've made, pages should be loading faster than ever. The design should be 100% the same too—if you notice any wonkiness, please make sure you're using a modern browser (something from the past year). Also, try clearing your cache.

Along with the new HTML comes two new big features: a mobile-optimized layout for phones so you can browse 4chan on the go, and inline extension features.

We've built what we think are the most popular extension additions directly into the site. To toggle them on and off, click "[Settings]" in the upper-right or bottom-right of the page. These features are: Quick reply, inline image expansion, post previews (for current thread only, we will make it global soon), backlinking (see who replied to a post), and enable a new drop-down style navigation. If you'd like the other features that the Chrome extension offers, grab it here.

Please report bugs to newhtml@4chan.org. Note if you are using an old browser, that is probably why you're experiencing bugs. Please include your OS and browser + version when reporting a bug.

I'm a woman, but when I read that the protagonist of a story is a woman, I usually put it down right then. I just don't trust the story not to desolve into a bad romance as soon as the chance (or a disagreeable, yet handsome young man) presents itself.

I might be persuaded to buy it anyway, if the story is good or unique enough, but that's few and far between.

Can /lit/ recommend some, then? Stories where there's a female protagonist that doesn't lean heavily on the fact that she's a bitch to the male protagonist until they doink?

Why don't you check the enormous recommended female authors thread we have going on? >>2623575

Those aren't really the kind of books I'm looking for.
>>
>>2637664
they're what you just described

kill yourself
>>
The Crying of Lot 49 is mostly devoid of romance, you automaton.

Don't be an asshole. I like my literature light.

did you seriously just come on /lit/ asking for slightly less shitty shit young adult novels?
>>
>>2637677
No, but there are adult novels that aren't deep, deep shit. I read to relax, not wallow in existential ennui and angst. Besides, what if I did? Why would that be so fucking bad?

this comes from another woman:
you're an idiot, read Virginia Woolf and shut the fuck up

This one is good OP, and a quick read

Check out "The Scar" by China Mieville. It's the second in a trilogy, but you don't really need to have read the first one to understand it. Main character is pretty awesome. Also Pirates and Quantum Mechanics-Infinite Universe Theory-Magic Sword stuff.
>>
Well, /lit/ is apparently not at all about books, but vying for the approval of faceless strangers, and proving your bullshit intellect to any asshat who will listen.

To anyone who answered seriously, thank you.

Anyone else: You sure showed me! I'm such a fucking faggot.

If you're into fantasy then the Abhorsen series.

good female novelist is a good one. Read ''Daddy'' by Plath and get over it

A lot of female authors use female protagonists.

Blindness, by Saramago. Feel the agony.

Man strives in everything for a direct domination over things, either by comprehending or by subduing them. But woman is everywhere and always relegated to a merely indirect domination, which is achieved by means of man, who is consequently the only thing she has to dominate directly. Thus it lies in the nature of women to regard everything simply as a means of capturing a man, and their interest in anything else is only simulated, is no more than a detour, i.e. amounts to coquetry and mimicry.

For a protagonist Innogen in Cymbeline is acclaimed as being Shakespeare's most developed female protagonist and like all women fades into a portrait of passivity as time progresses.
