Can someone post deep and edgy's existential crisis guides?
    >> Anonymous 04/26/12(Thu)15:49 No.2594321
It's simple. There's two paths. You either repeatedly struggle with routine justifications for the rest of your life. Or you accept God. I know which one I prefer.

OP it shouldn't be that hard. Look around you. The universe is a meaningless existence populated with stupid rocks and stars. Take the earth, a mere grain of sand on the beach that makes up the universe. The earth is not huge, but tiny. Humans are even smaller than the earth and nonexistent. When we die our name will live on in your children and grand children, but then your name will vanish and we can therefore state, that you don't exist now. We are utterly insignificant

    True dis.

There's a third option besides creating your own meaning or retreating back into faith because your field trip into nihilism didn't turn out to be as nice as you expected, however.

Just accept the lack of meaning, be suspended in nothingness, float around a bit until you get used to it. After a while the notion of meaning becomes rather absurd itself and you are content to just be without meaning, like many a beast or plant.

I am going to chime in on that being an oversimplification and false dichotomy as well.

You could simplify it further by justifying existence with Faith and God. BUt really just throwing stuff all in the same category of "justifying" seem facetious. Different justifications for existence can lead to vastly different worldviews. Besides "justification" only truly has a place in epistemology, silly pointless questions in the realm of existentialism will only butcher the use of the word "justification" as none of the outlooks are truly justified in the way other branches of philosophy justify things. Justification in the context of existentialism means something more akin to a very subjective preference.

I am still on the border of whether or not existentialism can really be discussed seriously as any sort of philosophy, or if there is anymore we can do that shit all over each other's views with our own. There isn't really a standard to appeal to in order to properly discuss it to any depth beyond "this is what I think"

    no.

For the majority of my life I float in your so called nothingness. It doesn't bother me.

The key to life is shrewd resignation and being generally laid back guy. Otherwise you're a slave.

Disease and suffering. You are not above it. You have very human limitations, because you are a human. That is what I meant. So your are still shackled by circumstance.

If you mean that hedonism is in a way a solution to existential crisis, because it seeks not meaning or truth but pleasure, which is much more easily found, I agree.

If thought so many times myself, but the actual practice of it leaves one a bit empty, I've found.
