fucking Brooks is nuts though. I mean, I like him but at times I'd like to strangle him for being so dumb or overtly contrary.

just look at this article he wrote recently:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/22/opinion/22brooks.html

"I support the Weak and Feckless Approach. Trust is based on mutual respect and reciprocity. If, at this moment of rage and cynicism, the ruling class goes even further and snubs popular opinion, then that will set off an ugly, destructive, and yet fully justified popular rebellion. Trust in government will be irrevocably broken. It will decimate policy-making for a generation."

I'm an Ausfag and the IHT is part of my regular internet news look-up, with:

    - ABC (the Australian BBC-type organisatiob)
    - The Age (paper copy)
    - BBC World News
    - The Guardian
    - Al-Jazeera

Occasionally I read for the lulz.
    - Herald Sun,
    - NT News (Darwin is a hilarious city),
    - Xinhua/People's Daily etc. (hooray Chinese propaganda)
    - Asahi-Shimbun (them wacky Japs)

I'm a news scanner so it sounds like heaps but really I don't spend ages reading the news.

The way you present fact can be biased. Telling people how to feel about facts can be biased. Making value judgments about facts can be biased. Cherry-picking the facts that are presented is biased.

You want to throw some links up to all this unforgivably biased journalism? Or are you just projecting because they're reporting doesn't match the way you'd like the world to be?

Pick any article by any American media source. Read it. There you go. If you don't see it. You're special. Look at fox news and cnn. They can both report the same story and twist it to mean to totally different things. How is that not bias? You're telling me sensationalism doesn't occur in the media? Gatekeeping? please, spare me.

There's some natural human bias inherent in all reporting, but that's a far cry from saying the New York Times is liberal propaganda. The Times is accused of being too liberal AND too conservative, depending on whose doing the accusing and what's in the news, so I'd say there's no *intentional* bias.

Fox News, on the other hand, is propaganda - not because of their slant, but because they manufacture news for the Republican party.

This is why you should all be watching Charlie Brooker's Newswipe. Its alot more in depth and scarier than Stewert but it is also the most fascinating education in journalism you will ever find outside of university.

Media studies major 'portin in on the subject of bias.

The only things you fully "know" and understand or those things that you have experienced first hand. Everything else you think that you know is fabrication, for all intents and purposes.

This is because everything that you have not experienced first hand is a filtered view from another source. Since one source cannot view an event from all points (due to both its literal placement and how its own life affects its view on an event), there is no way to replicate an experience once it is passed. What is reported is a fabrication, a mere shadow, a poorly lit photograph.

tl;dr The only knowledge is experience, all media is fabrication.

The more you read about current events, the less you know about them.

I want bullet points, nothing less, nothing more.
