You should mark that there are spoilers in those images. Specific ones that I know of for ASOIaF and American Gods

Sorry about that. Hopefully there's nothing too explosive in these images.

What American Gods spoiler was there? I agree that there are spoilers in the image, but I don't see any spoilers for American Gods ...

There's a better large-size image in the article but it's too big to upload

*SPOILER for American Gods* (what I consider to be a spoiler anyways)

It said that the power of the gods diminishes if people don't believe in them. Granted it doesn't give away the exact conflict that is taking place, or who is profiting from it, but it's still a pivotal explanation for why things are the way they are in the book and it's not something that the book just gives away right at the start (that I recall anyways, it's been.....oh.....6 or 7 years since I've read it)

Fair enough. As far as I remember this was established pretty early on though ...

So what book has the best system of magic in your opinion?

Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrel. Magic is just a skill that you can pick up with diligent practice.

    >that feel when you find out American Gods is a fantasy book after reading the first hundred pages and immediately stop reading after that

I thought it was going to be an intelligent discourse on the influence of religion in popular culture in America.

    *more Spoilers for American Gods*

You know, as an aside, I thought that theme in American Gods was really interesting, because it supposes a pretty unconventional view of worship. It doesn't matter if you're going to church, or if you're following an actual scripture. Those were the traditional modes of practicing religion, but in the modern age, simply your use of technology is like a pious ritual and it empowers the technology in the same way that the rituals of old gave power to the Norse Gods and such. I mean, I tend not to think of worship in that way, but I suppose by contributing my thoughts to 4chan (or what have you) I'm in some way making an offering to it since it's based on the contributions of many people that it's able to continue existing and to grow and become stronger. Since reading American Gods I've adopted a more critical view of what I devote my time and resources to.

    yep...that Neil Gaiman..smart guy.

Yeah bro, he pretty much took the Discworld deity model and put it in the "real world."

    You could do this.

Or you could think about the story you read, like this:

It is right and appropriate that these two posts come one after another.

A minor matter: Magic isn't really good or evil in the Farseer trilogy. We see both being misused at several points.
