There'll prolly be some argument that this should go in /tv/, but I figure /lit/ will better appreciate it.

The Ender's Game movie. . .What do you want it to be?

To speak broadly, I want it to be the novella with a few flashbacks to Ender's first days, with a "300-but-with-genius-kids-in-space" feel, and some (SOME) cgi/visual nods to the Scott Pilgrim movie to display some of Ender's thoughts/strategy and the arcade-iness of the war games.

That might sound moronic to some, but in terms of getting a marketable and authentic "feel" to the film, you could do way worse.

    Thoughts?

Seriously. And the ending was not the least bit impressive. It was the equivalent of "NO JOHN, YOU ARE THE DEMONS! And then John was a zombie."

    >>2110492
I dunno, I thought the bit about knowing your enemy completely and loving them for it the instant before you annihilate them to protect yourself was very powerful.

The end twist probably would ahve been more impressive if it wasn't a ROSEBUUUD moment by now, btw.
    >> Anonymous 09/30/11(Fri)22:03 No.2110657
to me, ender's game was always about the morals of Ender. The ending should be an emotional climax of how he had been used rather than the elation of having beaten the aliens. Ofc the on screen actors should be shown rejoicing in it (sans Ender) but if the audience doesn't feel at least an amount of the angst Ender felt at that moment, then the movie will have failed in my opinion.

Sadly, this movie will probably go with the fuck-yeah-humans angle.
    >> Anonymous 09/30/11(Fri)22:53 No.2110674
As if Hollywood is going to make a movie where kids kill each other and not fuck it up.

If I remember correctly, doesn't Ender beat one of his classmates to death in the toilets? I bet you a hundred euros that bit doesn't go in the movie

I want them to show the part where two 12 year olds take over the world by tripfagging on /new/.

You think they would put that in?

I just saw Citizen Kane for the first time (along with reading through the classics, nonfiction works to educate myself, and modern fiction to entertain myself, I also try to make my way through IMDB's Top 250 films) and I had no idea what Rosebud would be....not sure if I'm the only person to never hear people talk about that film, but I didn't know it would happen.

Nor did I hear a thing (or suspect a thing) about the end of Ender's Game.

(The Sixth Sense, however, was so obvious I thought that was part of the film. No one needed to tell me.)

I hope so, most contemporary science fiction movies constantly put the focus on how bad humans are.

You find child actors capable of doing the book justice.
If by the end of writing the script they're not all teenagers filled with angst I'll be shocked.
Horrible comparison, but you remember the shocking contrast between the Goku character in the animated dragonball series and the Live action adaptation? That sort of contrast is what I'm bracing myself for if an ender's movie is ever made.
    >> Anonymous 10/01/11(Sat)16:42 No.2111743
Ender's Game is Twilight for boys.

    I loved the book.

I don't think I'd be able to handle it if it was adapted.

Hollywood would just fuck it up.

    I see his point.

Shit x Shit = Shit (infinity)

OP, if you think you can inject a scott pilgrim + 300 vibe into Ender's Game and make it good then I fear the drivel hollywood would possibly come up with. Not sure what you mean by that. Maybe clarify your idea a bit more?

The good news is, Orson Scott Card wont let anyone make it without his concent and without adequately expressing his vision. So, there is hope.
