Why are you even on /lit/?
It's because you need to feel superior about something, anything when the rest of your life just makes you angry. Why are you angry? You feel intelligent, but not intelligent enough. You think you should be smart enough to understand, but you don't. And it makes you mad.

You're the one who apparently needs to feel superior telling people "i don't think you have read as much as me" therefore i am superior. You don't like manga and I do, therefore I am superior and I can post this shit in any board when there are plenty of places specifically made for this type of fag shit.

What the hell does your reading as much as anyone else even have to do with any of this?

Go cry into your manga and keep thinking you are so deep, interesting, cultured, and cool because you read books backwards and all the while you don't realize that most of these plots have been played out before in actual literature.

You need books with pictures to help you understand the plot and characters.

Just go back to your picture books.

Of course plots are recycled, as are archetypes. New things are constantly being created from these old parts, but most importantly, as Hegel said, they embody the zeitgeist, the spirit of the time.

So what you are saying is this is why people come to /lit/?? You are fucking retarded, we come here to discuss literature, moron.

Why are you even here posting then if everyone on /lit/ is quote:

Yes, that is exactly why we are on /lit/...moron, no it's to get away from people like you, who read fucking manga and think they are psychoanalysts now because the characters in their mangas are sooooo deep!!!

(no offence to everyone who reads manga, just the ones who think they are qualified to psychoanalyze because they read it)

You haven't understood any of this. It's not that manga is "deep" it's the fucking readers that get so full of it that think they themselves are "deep" for reading it'...even the fact that you have to mention that you are an "insomniac", who gives a fuck. Once again you are trying to look like you are some cool person, cause that's what cool people in your picture books do right, not sleep.

I never said that manga was deep. I simply stated that some people in this thread considered it to be. To be honest, I haven't read any manga in months.

If people want to read it, that's all well and good. However, it does not make you 'deep', 'cool', or whatever else, and certainly not well-read. /lit/ is not the place to discuss manga or comic books, no matter how you look at it, because these are simply. not. literature.

Wow this cratered faster and harder than the thread about fanfiction someone posted earlier. That's impressive.

While we're off-topic, to those who think manga doesn't have any literary merit, why? Is there something fundamentally about the medium that makes it necessarily shallower than books without pictures, or is it the market that produces and publishes it prevents anything but recycled plots from getting through?

And what about anime based on so-called "light novels" that were never manga to begin with? (I've found these are almost always superior to those that started as manga.) They don't fall under the umbrella of "picture books" so they potentially could have merit.

I don't expect serious replies but it'd be nice.

Aha. Have you seen Shiki? I thought it had better plot and characterization than almost any anime I'd seen recently (and built suspense extremely well) -- not to mention it completely changed theme/tone in the middle in a way that should have been very hard to pull off. Was originally a novel by the same author.

Vampire Hunter D and Trinity Blood are two others that were novels first, anime later, but I don't think the anime are representative of the novels in either case. My Japanese friend talks about the writing quality of the latter all the time; it definitely loses something when translated into anime or even English.

As for Trinity Blood, wasn't impressed by the anime, didn't really think about reading the novel. Is it a lot better?
