So, today we had our very first /lit/ book club discussion. Not that many people joined in (40-50 posts or so), but I can say that I still enjoyed it a whole lot, thanks to everyone that was there. So now, it's time for our second book and our second discussion! As I was the one that had to decide what book we should choose from, I'll post the final result to our very first /lit/ book club poll:At 220 votes: Naked Lunch by William S. BurroughsAt 212 votes: the Case of Charles Dexter Ward by H.P. LovecraftAt 187 votes: Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions by Edwin Abbott AbbottAt 137 votes: Billy Budd by Hermann MelvilleAt 129 votes: Gargantua by François RabelaisSo Naked Lunch it is! The clear winner from the get go wins it all even though the Lovecraft was catching up as time went on. Should be a very nice read for everyone, and I hope that more people will be able to join in with the discussion next Sunday. So here, I'll now pass the torch to Kyle for the next poll, and I hope that everyone enjoyed this first week on our new imageboard.
I'm not sure on this weekly thing, perhaps bi-weekly or a month for longer books we decide on?
>>148316well, Naked Lunch is really short and so was Notes From the Underground. If we ever get to choose longer books, we'll most likely give more time for everyone.
great now i have to buy books.no, i don't already have them.
>>148356torrents, everything is free on the internet.
>>148370and four of the five books were in the public domain anyway, not my fault that everyone ended up choosing the one that wasn't :3.
>>148356You can just download it.The tumblr site has a link: http://eliterati.tumblr.com/
i was hoping for gargantua but this is fine too. already have a copy!
How are books nominated?
>>148383whoa, that's very cool of you. I already own the book, but thanks for doing this!
What if I don't like reading books off a computer screen? I'll join up when you choose a book I have access to.
>>148462well that's just your problem, bro. it's not as if any of the choices I decided on were obscure or anything either way, and libraries exist too, you know.
i already read Naked Lunch, can I play WoW all week?
>>148444poll posted on the shelfari board.
>>148502as long as you join in with the discussion next sunday, of course!
>>148508How are the poll choices chosen? Those books look like pretentious shit, imo.
>>148515thank you for the serious response. for that, i will read it again.
