If by light you mean manag, wrong board. If not then check out Banana Yoshimoto she does short stories and novellas 'hard boiled & hard luck' and 'goodbye tsugumi' are her best.

Spice and Wolf, it's so good it doesn't deserve to be lumped in with other light novel shit like Haruhi.
    >> Anonymous 01/31/10(Sun)16:10 No.141988
Baccano! is good. I've only ever been able to find complete translations of the first book, though.
    >> Anonymous 01/31/10(Sun)16:11 No.141997
i thought the boogiepop novels were good

although short, i mean seriously what backwards culture splits a book in half when in total its less than 250 pages
    >> Anonymous 01/31/10(Sun)16:14 No.142018
Light novels barely count as literature. They are made by bad writers who are too full of themselves to do manga. They're childish but think they're not.
    >> Anonymous 01/31/10(Sun)16:18 No.142059
I enjoyed Death Note and Elfen Lied (if you are looking for entertaining manga that aren't just a bunch of lazar beams being fired at people). Beyond that, I tend not to pick up a manga if I haven't watched the anime associated with it. Code Geass was a great anime, but the series came first, so the manga isn't canon and has very little to do with the series from what I've heard. Don't know if this helps.
    >> Anonymous 01/31/10(Sun)16:19 No.142072
Princess Resurrection is a pretty fun manga series.
Also, you should read Death Note, Hellsing and Fullmetal Alchemist, just because all your friends are probably doing it.

No kidding. There are way fewer anime than manga, and thus way fewer good anime than good manga.

Obligatory for the discussion, although this is a light novel thread and that even this list is a bit incomplete.
    >> Anonymous 01/31/10(Sun)16:30 No.142167
Alright, alright, let's streamline this clusterfuck of a thread. No one talk about manga. This is about light novels, which *are* /lit/ worthy.

Can anyone make a list of light novels that have been translated into English? So far we have Haruhi and Baccano!

Kino no Tabi. Only the first of like 12 though, and we will never get the rest.
