What method does /lit/ prefer to use when writing? Typing, pen or pencil?

    I use pen.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)22:31 No.116993
Pencil, it's always felt most comfortable.

Of course I back up all my writings on my computer too.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)22:32 No.117000
Depends what I'm writing and what I'm in the mood for.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)22:32 No.117001
I type. I can't read it otherwise. Bad bad writing with minor dyslexia.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)22:33 No.117007
Typing, so easy to go back and make edits.
    >> DMP !CDJI7s8bpg 01/29/10(Fri)22:33 No.117014
Typing. It takes so much less time to type out a sentence/idea than it does to write it.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)22:34 No.117017
    Pen personally.
    >> Kipton Tang !!B5gQgKgEeg4 01/29/10(Fri)22:34 No.117024
Pencil. When typing, my fingers can't keep up with my thoughts.
    >> Y: The Last Man !Vgdb4f7iQA 01/29/10(Fri)22:34 No.117029
Pen for the notes stage. Then I type it up. I can touch-type so it's always the quicker portion.
    >> Mike Le Watt !L4ityhwMgA 01/29/10(Fri)22:35 No.117033
notepad for mass notes + backing shit up in txt form.
open office for the main text

I always carry my trusty fountain pen and notepad to write shit down. I enjoy both typing and handwriting as they both tend to subtly influence my writing style in different ways.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)22:35 No.117043
    typing

Fucking terrible point. Easy editing is what kills the majority of wannabe novelists. "Oh this sentence isnt quite perfect, I had better spend the next four hours getting the flow perfect in this first paragraph, this descriptive passage isnt good enough, need to rewrite it", etc.

Just get it the fuck down, edit it later. Thats what a second draft is for.

Everyone should invest in a typewriter. It feels like typing on a keyboard (kind of) and you get the advantage of having to actually do something to make an edit.

Believe me, your writing will thank you.

    Pens = Notes
    Type = Finished Product

I'd love to use a type writer but they're a bitch to find. A classical one of course, none of that electronic 80's shit.

    Also, cocks.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)22:39 No.117073
Pen. Everyone tells me I write like shit when I type and quite frankly, writing by hand is more "fun".

You know... You can just do a save as, and do your edits on a second pass. I like to keep all of my drafts so I can analyze my process later.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)22:40 No.117087
It depends really.. I used to only write with pen, but a few years ago I got a netbook for when I was travelling by train (happened alot those days) and started typing poems on my way home.

When I write by pen I feel like my work has more permanence, will prefer not to draft and take alot longer to commit anything. With typing I can put loads of random ideas on the page and chop and change things around several times before I'm completely satisfied. When it comes to writing on paper I just always try and make everything a final copy... guess I just like paper and don't like 'wasting' it on various thought processes and unrelated flights of fantasy.

tl;dr - Pen mostly but sometimes type.

My writing is almost illegible and I've never really liked pens. I love keyboards though. It's so much faster! Well, for me anyway.

I had to look for a few months to find mine, and I had to settle for a fairly old school, non-portable kind, which looks really cool but is heavy as fuck. I really wanted a convienant little light one, where the head moves instead of the paper, but alas, I didn't have the money for one.

Mine only cost me like fifty bucks at a garage sale, but I've since had it serviced (theres actually a guy that lives right near me that specializes in typewriter maintenance - lucky much?) and apparantly it should have been quite a bit more expensive.

Everything works fine on it, but it doesnt have a fucking exclamation point (I use /.. to indicate one).

If you really want one, and have lots of money, it shouldnt be too hard to get whatever style/model/period you like online. But very costy.

Also yes, electric ones suck balls.

    I use one of these.

I prefer pen, then I type up those notes I've written.
