So... is faggot an offensive term to gays? I use it quite a lot.
>>19838 (OP)Yeah!?What about queers and sparkle-farters?
>>19871>sparkle-fartersI like that one.
Yes. I'm not even kidding when I say this.I pretend to be cool with it at work, but every time I hear someone say it, I basically feel really hurt, and then I want to stab them in the neck.
>>20019Stabbing someone for saying a word? That's a pretty faggy thing to do.
>>20019Unrelated to your sexual orientation, you're just beta as fuck.
>>20019What a faggot.
>>19871>sparkle-farters
>>20019It boggles my mind that people like you still exist in the year 2013
>>20019Shut up faggot.
>>20019Why does it make you feel this way?I don't want to offend you, but it is just a word..I can try to equate it to blacks calling each other "niggers." But that might not be fair..I understand it is essentially just a derogatory term used to reference gays.. but is there anything else about the word that you derive offense to?
fags
Depends on the person. I personally hate that shit, especially when people go "I don't mean it that way! A straight comedian said it was totally ok."
>>20146Maybe faggot and gay person are the equilivent of nigger and black person nowadays.A nigger is gansta, black person a functioning member of society.A faggot is flamboyant attention whore wearing a purple headress speaking with a lisp and sucking hundreds of dicks left right and centre, a gay person is a guy that likes other guys.
I don't care what words people use or if others get offended by them, but it pisses me off when someone tries to brand another 'sexist', 'racist' 'homophobe' etc based on a single word.
Existence vs. intent.
>>20019Faggot here, go ride a dick you crybaby. It's fine OP, anyone who gets offended by it isn't the kind of person you want to worry about.
You're a faggot if you're offended by obscenity.
Depends on how its used. I actually don't mind the constant throwing around of faggot as a stand in for retard because it just cheapens the word to the point that it no longer has any teeth.
>>20248Thanks, man.
I feel a little offended when i am called a fag on multiplayer online games. Specially because most of the people use this term as if being gay is bad.
>>20197>nigger>functioning member of societyI think you have some misconceptions there my friend.Anyways, does the fact that people associate the word faggot with that kind of person mean that you are that kind of person?Certainly not.The way I see it is, people have the right to call others whatever they want, you as an individual just have to be comfortable enough with yourself to accept that others have different concepts about certain things..As long as you know what you are, even when being called a fag, you have to realize that you are not one and you are simply gay.
Do you cunts consider being called pooftah offensive?
>>20424What are you, from boston/new england?
>>20146Not the person you are responding to, but I got beaten up while people chanted 'faggot' and 'tranny'. So it hurts to hear those words.
Fag/got is never an insult specifically about homosexual unless they make it apparent they mean homosexuality."Gay" as an insult to something that isn't remotely homosexual is stupid but I don't really get offended by it.I think the only time I've ever been "offended" by someone is teling them I was gay and them saying "Well you don't sound gay why don't you have a gay voice".Some other dude also thought he was gay but he said it was impossible because "You can't have two mental illnesses at once" (He was autistic, and I am too)
I dunno but there's finally a board where using the word faggot is justified. You faggots.
Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right. >>20019 is a FAGGOT of the highest caliber.
>>20464Fucken Ostraya, mate.
>>20248>anyone who gets offended by it isn't the kind of person you want to worry about. That was really well said
>>20370So people who complain to the feelings police when they get offended are just... plain faggots?
The only time I'm ever offended by the word fag, or gay are from people that already offend me without having to say it.
>>20424Straya. Fuck yee.
>>20499We're on 4chan. Everyone is autistic.
>>20612I mean actual autism, not /v/ autism.Granted it's still probably a good deal.
>>20493see>>20370So you might have a PTSD kind of thing about it..I think it's horrible that people did that to you..But have you made any effort to get past it and maybe use those words as something you can identify with and possibly use to empower you? Those people beat you up and tortured you because you are who you are, but you should be proud of who you are and if people associate certain words with you tell them that you aren't offended by them and thus the negativity of the words disappears, right?
>>20424Too roight cunt, too roight
>>20643I do try to use those words to empower me, the same way a fat person would say "I'm so fat haha" but they would also feel bad when someone calls them fat. So it is for trans* people to reclaim, not cis people.
Going to school throughout the 90s, people called each other 'gay', 'gayfer', 'homo', 'queer' and 'fag' a lot. They did it because liking men was something bad. It was something to make fun of. It's still a derogatory word for a penis lover. But on 4chan, it's an honorific. We add -fag to everything. Buyfags, straightfags, whatever you can think of. It's not offensive here.
>>20572Yeah, laws should not be made upon whether something will hurt someones feelings, that's just fucking stupid.Society depends on people to be comfortable with themselves in order to progress and work fluidly, if everyone who ever hurt someone else's feelings was put in jail, jail would just become society.
>>20723>Going to school throughout the 90s, people called each other 'gay', 'gayfer', 'homo', 'queer' and 'fag' a lot.I noticed this too. I went to school in Florida
>>20688That just sounds awkward. First off you don't have to justify yourself to anyone. Fuck em if they don't like you being a *dun dun* faggot. You gotta deal with that but more importantly they have to deal with it or fuck off too. It all depends on you how to deal with it.
>Louie, episode 2, "Poker Scene"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-55wC5dEnc
The way I see it language is an always evolving thing. So when people use gay/fag to describe something lame with no thought to it's traditional meaning they are doing more to "equality" than people who get offended by the word do.
>>20688Sure, but you cannot stop cis people from using the words.. You literally can't and it is impractical to waste time and resources trying to obliterate something that cannot be destroyed. The best advice I could give would just be to suck it up and do the best you can to get through the pain it gives you and be proud of what you are.
>>20798No, I don't have to justify myself, I just get beaten up when I tell people I am transgender, lol. I wish cis people would deal with it, but they don't. It isn't really my problem because I'm just a normal girl who lives her life quietly, but when people learn this tiny little detail about me, they go crazy from what I have seen.
>>20796Guy you replied to. Me too, grew up in FL and finished school there.
People keep telling me I should be offended by the word. I am not. Say faggot all you want. There are plenty of ways to insult people why only taboo fag and nigger? Banning those words seems like you are trying to ban insults which is retarded. If you are fine with people throwing insults why do you have a problem specifically with those two words out of all the other possibilities?
>>20019You fucking faggotPeople don't dislike you because you're gay; people dislike you because your personality is awful
>>20812I know I can't. I'm just sending a message to anyone who listens that it bothers me. When someone else uses them casually in a discussion with me, I'll tell them not to use it, and if they refuse, I'll leave because I don't want anything to do with that person. I'm not going to bother trying to educate people who deliberately want to offend me. No one takes those assholes seriously anyway.
>>20867They make fun of people because they're gay. Being gay is a bad thing. Where the hell have you been?
>>19838 (OP)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGyKBFCd_u4
>>20853Probably hanging around the wrong people. The worst thing you can do is distance yourself by labelling yourself as a "trans person" instead of a "peron" and "cis people" instead of "everyone who isn't me"... basically. That shit gets my goat. You're no more or less a person for being transgender than I am for being a redhead. I just don't have a soul is all.
Words are words. What is "gay" "faggot" "queer""dickprince" "nigger" "slut" etc. Those are words, words can harm or bounce off you depending on your personal experience with them.Let's take "idiot".You can call someone "idiot" in a sweet manner, with a soft tone, he'll understand you're just joking around. But you can just spit "idiot", coat it with venom, spit that word out like you want to use it to stab the other person in his guts, you let that word carry all your hate for that other person, and things change. However either way you use that word, you can't predict how the other person will react, an ultra sensitive person could get offended by you calling him an idiot no matter what, and a very tough person will not give a shit either way, or maybe he DOES care but he just carries it inside and never tells you, then one day, after years of you using that word and thinking he doesn't care, he explodes and kills three people in a rampage. In conclusion words are just words, and human beings are complex, you can't predict how others will react to them, there's a social stigma attached to some of them but ultimately there isn't much you can do to predict what kind of reaction a person will have to certain words.
>>20966Those words are literally supposed to hurt you. That's what they were made for. Some people are just autistic enough to think words change meanings over time.
I'm way too late, because this image should've been in the first five replies
>>20887I guess that's all you really can do.Rational people will use respect when talking to you.Someone is obviously irrational if they waste their own time to go out of their way to offend you simply to upset you.I can't understand how someone can get satisfaction from trying to hurt someone for nothing.
>>21019>Some people are just autistic enough to think words change meanings over time.>IMPLYING THEY DON'T>GUFFAWING LINGUISTS.JPG
>>21019That's silly, if you overuse a word long enough it loses most of it's power. It stop making sense, it becomes just another noise.
>>21019>Some people are just autistic enough to think words change meanings over time.
>>21019> Some people are just autistic enough to think words change meanings over time.are you implying the opposite?>what is linguistics
>>21019>muh inherent meaningpro-tip, they do.
See, I love gay men!But I haaaaaaaaate faggots!
>>21019>tfw you are the one with autism
Louis C.K.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fcja4WFFzDw(NSFW)
>>20950I agree with the person thing, sadly it isn't me who wants to make that distinction, it is cis people.>>21062Me either, that's why I don't understand this website. The anger on this board is ridiculous, I hope it calms down enough for some normal discussion, but I get the feeling that MRAs and nutjobs will be here constantly, I'm sure we will never hear the end of 'heterophobia' and 'cisphobia' accusations here.
>>21236He took that back:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-55wC5dEnc
>>21281Only cis faggots. I'm a cis person and don't give a fuck. So long as you don't expect me to treat you like a princess because you're transexual.
>>21019Then by your logic we shouldn't even be calling you gay.
Im openly gay and i cringe everytime my coworkers try to be politically correct around me.Makes me wonder about black gays.
>>20019MUH FEELINGS
>>21346Just treat me like a human being please
Is it bad to use it when not referring to homosexuals when using it?I basically take the Louis C.K. stance on the word, I don't call somebody a faggot for being gay, I call them a faggot for being a faggot.Does that make me a bad person?
>>19838 (OP)>I use it quite a lot.What are you OP, 12?
>>22297As it was said before, it's just a word. You're going to hurt some people by using it but tough fucking shit. You're going to hurt a lot of people during your life and there isn't much you can do about it, it'll happen. If your intent isn't harmful in the first place and you aren't a shitty person it usually works out, no reason to censor yourself for a "what if" scenario.
>>22383I pretty much agree.I wasn't really asking if that makes me a bad person because I was actually questioning it, it was more that I was wondering if people actually thought that based on how I use it.I'm completely against self-censorship, I'll say what I want. The day I don't is the day I lose my sense of individuality.
>>22495Hey some of us use it to differentiate people like the faggot who said languages don't change, or the goddamn flaming fucking faggots like Crocker, you know people who set thing back for years by being fucking faggots.
>>22495>it was more that I was wondering if people actually thought that based on how I use itYeah, some will think you're a bad person even if you don't deserve it, that's also part of life, people will judge you based off certain things you do or say, even if the intent isn't malicious. How you, in turn, react to being judged like that is also part of what will define you as a person, some people just think everyone else is a huge hypersensitive cunt and they start insulting everyone, some people can't handle the stress and censor themselves even if they were against it, maybe because a person that is close to them and that they care about got offended by something they said, and so on.Shit will happen.
>>22138Well duh.>>2236320. I say "quite a lot". I mean when I insult someone. I'm British so it's complicated how we insult people.
